"We run this place"

Does anyone else get tired of hearing this line from everyone? Guys, when I'm in a police station, talking to a police officer, I KNOW they run the place. When I'm on the freakin' USS Missouri, I sure as heck don't need a naval officer to remind me that "I'm with the Liberty Navy; We run this place."

Silly dialogue...

I just hit the ESC key after clicking on them...So I don't hear it anymore. I started that for reasons I think would be obvious....lol

"Hello there, Mr...?"
"Trent."
"Ah, you're new here, aren't you?"
"Well, considering I've been here around seventeen times before, spoken to your buddy over there on at least a dozen occasions, started off here after Freeport 7, saved the universe and got a crap medal for it, and didn't even score with miss swingy hips over there after doing countless jobs for her (not those kinds, sicko!) and her navy, yeah, pretty much."
"Ah, I work for the - Liberty Navy. We run this place."
"Really."
"Well, I can let you in on a rumour I've heard."
"Indulge me."

"Well just between us, I have heard a rumour!"

Now that bugs me. Why do all these people sit or stand on their own in bars, and then pass on rumours to someone they just met!?

Some of those girls in LSF uniforms look pretty good to me, surely the lonely men sitting alone in the same bars would have a go at chatting them up, especially after a few beers !!! Although there's way too many men with moustaches in uniforms about the place for my liking.........!!

One of my bigger gripes about the game is everyone is sooooo static. There is no interaction between bar patrons. After getting shot up and limping back to base, the first thing I want to hear from a hot chick (whos faction I'm helping) in a bar is, "Grab a bottle and lets head back to my place."

I heard something about some of the earlier videos showing people dancing and talking in bars, but I dunno. Appears to have been removed, if it was ever really in there.

Or when you go to manhatten as lvl 38 or sumthing, knowing everybody's name, then they ask if this is your first time here, and you say "uh huh" Are they insane! Ive been to manhatten 1,000,000+ times, but no, i've never seen you before, so you must have never been here. I want to punch my computer screen when I hear that. I guess thats what ESC is for.

There are 2 planets where everybody knows you, and you have Been there before.

They are Primus & the other one in the same system

Yeah what digs with that cueball???!!! i've been blasting nomads in that system for ages and the monkeys don't give me a job even though samura love me to bits aswell..hhhmmm. where is that system in the story??? I recognise the robot planet as the order base but surely that was blown to incy pieces!!

Post Mon May 12, 2003 12:01 pm

What he is saying is if you talk to the monkeys/robots in the bar the all seam to know you, even if you never been there before.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea for melting down coins to make a giant robotic parrot was a bad idea, I would have one kicka$$ giant robotic parrot.

I bet they've been watching your career with interest and are eyeing you up to rid their system of their enemies.
"FL2, revenge of the monkeys" anyone?

for some reason everyone seemed to know me in Kyoto base when the SP took me there

"Glad you could make it back Trent"
"Have we met?"

Even a kick up the pants is a step forwards...

Also, the bartender on Leeds is apparently an old friend. Makes you wonder how Trent saved up for his first ship....

The only thing that bothers me is the way Trent just stands there in the doorway, loitering. You'd think after a long day of risking your neck in deep space, he'd at least want to belly up to the bar for a cold one!

I think the game would be a lot better if you could see the other players in the bar and commodity exchanges. The bar would make a great chat room, while the exchange would make a good place to trade. They would have to allow other skins or you'd see thirty Trents in every locale, though. Scary.

By the way, I can live with Trent's inarticulate manner, it was his inability to shoot pistols in SP that bothered me. Here I am, making him look like an ace, and he goes and shoots up everything but his intended target! What a schmuck.
