How do I assign/use weapon groups?

Can't find out how to assign weapons to groups and then activate those groups. Tried decrypting the 'controls' setup with different options. None work for me. Tried assigning in hangers, in space, and with F7 on. No luck. Anyone know how to do this? Solves the reticule balance problem and let's me change quickly for different shields.

1st you need to bind thoughs "weapons group" keys in the setup, if they aren't bound already..

Weapons Group 1 is already set. It defaults to all guns.

If you press the weapons group 2 button, it should be empty. No guns..

Then you can just click the guns on your HUD you want to be in that group.

So now you can go back to weapons group 1 with all weapons, and pressing weapons group 2 will only have the weapons you assigned to it earlier.

Something like that.

Used f1/Controls/user interface/ assign wps grp and activate wpns grp. No dice. is there sumthin wrong with my install? these assigned controls do nothin at all. still puzzled. anyone done this?
