Running freelancer in a window?

Trade lanes are so bloody boring, so I'm wondering if its possible to run it in a window so I can still check whats going on and if I'm being attacked while browsing the internet. Is this possible?

You got to love a multi-tasker. I heard of this mentioned before but I'm not sure if its possable. I'm leaning on "no" but I may be wrong.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea for melting down coins to make a giant robotic parrot was a bad idea, I would have one kicka$$ giant robotic parrot.

No, MS didn't provide for any such mechanism. Most games that utilize the DirectX utilities fall in the same catagory.

Unfortunately the current version of VMware doesn't support Direct3D or you might have something. Keep on eye on this one if it is important to you....

.sig/ This space left intentially blank.... well, almost blank... well, its getting fuller... oh, nevermind.

Right click your freelancer shortcut, select "properties", and modify the target field by adding -windowed at the end, like this:

c:\program files\freelancer\freelancer.exe -windowed

YES!

This is what I have always wanted.

...wait...

...what is this...

NO! NO! NOOOOOOOooooooohhhh.....

Freelancer stops running when it looses focus. Any way around this?

Thanks, that was very helpful.

Just a note: You can ajust the window size by changing the game resolution.

that just adjusts the resolution...800x600 and 1200x1000, for example, would still both take up the whole screen.

Reaper: $200,000,000.
Rockets: $100,000
The look on that pilot's face when you launch a full pod of screamers up his tailpipe: priceless

hmm, afaik it does only stop in singleplayer, whereas it goes on in multiplayer.

Sp00n,

It goes on in MP, but in the same way as if I had Alt-Tab'ed away from a normal full screen game:
Sound disappears, screen is not updated, travel continues and game clock keeps counting. Very, very risky, as you can be attacked without seeing or hearing anything.

NukeIt,

No, changing game resolution changes the size of the window.
