Cruise Disrupters: The Bane Of My Life

Can someone please instruct me in how to use countermeasures to stop cruise disrupters from stopping my cruise engines when trying to get away. I can't seem to get the knack of it.

Dump 4+ CM, and try to get behind a big rock or something, then run like heck!!

When you are really desperate, try this:

Afterburn to max speed
Cut your engines (default key is Z)
Turn 180 degrees to face them

The AI will think you be turning back, so they will slow down to engage you. Found that out while running away from Mollys in Dublin but watch out for the mines!

EDIT: I meant 180 degrees, not 360!

the cutoff engine works best..

if you hear a cruise coming while you are in cruise. Swith to free flight quickly and cut your engine.

You'll maintain cruise speed even after the missile hit you, giving you time to run away..

Trent : uhh[!..No?..
Juni : Well I did. Babble..babble..bla..bla..bla..
Trent : (Ok...ok.. do I get to sleep with you or not?)

I agree cut engine slide works the best. Kill your cruise engine as soon as you hear incoming missle it is always a cruise disruptor. Slide around 180 degrees and face them you will still continue to move the direction you were going, (No atmosphere = no friction).

The AI will slow down drop some mines hit your afterburners and haul A away from the area (or not) depending upon what you are flying at the time. Also the CM must be dropped as soon as you see the warning do not hesitate.

You must drop at least 4 or more to even have a chance and get the advanced CM as soon as you can, but not at the expense of the best Thruster it can save your life.

The engine kill works but one thing to note, dont fire at them. Especially the higher level Lane Hackers etc as if you hit them they will continue firing just when you bats/bots will be low enough to make it a kill.

But counter measures are best dropped as soon as you hear the audio missle incoming. Then start to dodge to throw the missles tracking off. But you don't stay in straight line flight ie auto pilot, if your not in free flight then your not going to make it out 80% of the time.

So when trading I find its best to stay in free flight all the time and manual target gates etc and fast gate ie get to the gate in cruise or engine kill and then dock dont use the auto pilot as that wastes valuable seconds when you are vunerable.

Yup, combat dockin n stuf. And you can also turn on your countermeasure hardpoint n the cms drop automaticaly, that can halp. Especialy when you're tied up dodging asteroids.

I'm a bit of a hothead. If something disrupts me or hacks me, I go chasing it across the map, even if it's 20 levels higher. I rarely bother with countermeasures or other fancy stuff to distract disrupters, because if I use them, I'll have wasted money on a fight I didn't win, and thus have given victory to a mere AI. And if I get killed by them in the process, I build up my level some more and go on a rampage killing every one of the offending faction I can find.

But if I DID, HYPOTHETICALLY, have to distract a disrupter...fly behind an asteroid and let it disrupt the rock. And if, even more hypothetically, I needed to do so in open space...countermeasure storm and engine kill.

Yep I agree with the Free Flight advise. I usually don't fly by auto pilot anyway as it has been know to fly into planets, Sun Corona's and other solid objects it should know is there.
It also has the annoying habit of going to cruise engines when the dock object is only 2K away.
The best dock manuver I know of is to look at the gate you are flying towards and hope someone is using it then you can aim for the proper jump at cruise speed and never miss a beat. I have actually "Stolen" Trade lane gates from other ships this way and went to "V" and saw them come in behind me. It can save you in a bad situation. At any rate get as close as you can target the middle of the gate if you don't know which one will activate and don't hit Dock until you are on top of it.

If you are a hard-core pilot here is another trick if you have a rear fireing turret. as soon as you hear the warning cut engines and hold down the rear view button (defult "v". then just soot the damn wasp missle out of the sky. you got to be quick though, and I mean QUICK!!! Those misstles move super fast. but with some practace you'll get use to it and you will eventually be able to do it without having to cut your engines. The good thing is the wasp missiles are predictable. they travel straight as an arrow so you don't have to worry about leading them too much and 9 times out of 10 they come from almost directly behind you. The worst times is when I'm flying around in my decked out eagle and some rookie hackers try to attack. it gets really anoying really quick.

If I had a nickel for every time someone told me that my idea for melting down coins to make a giant robotic parrot was a bad idea, I would have one kicka$$ giant robotic parrot.

there's a slight problem with that. You will always have to cut your engines, because the only thing that fires while in cruise is countermeasures.

The engine kill works...As long as you are not using Autopilot (Think it was mentioned in an earlier post)

If you are in "Go To" the engine kill doesn't work.

I understand and like Cruise Dispurtors...But I still hate getting hit by them...lol

Even when it's Lane Hackers in Stilettos and I am in my Titan...They can't hurt me...much...But stil...It's the point...I am trying to get somewhere....

You hit me with a disrupter...I hit you with my tank. I will survive in most cases...

I've said it before...the one lesson the AI's have yet to learn is to follow the basic laws of survival:

1. Do not annoy that which you cannot kill or run away from.

2. He who has the biggest gun makes the rules.

3. No matter what else you may do, NEVER get in the way of the bigger, badder vehicle.

HMPH! BE A MAN!!! FIGHT THEM ALLLLL!!!

lol jks,

The way I do it is by starting the cruise engine power up sequence then using mouse flight to move in circles (no fixed pattern) while dropping about 3 or so Countermeasures.....I only drop them when I hear the missile getting quite close so as not to waste em'

Tell that to the newbs that insist the Titan > Sabre (I mean those that say Titan is teh G0dlz0rz etc)
