I just got to Bretonia (Because I was chased out of Liberty) and did several things around, making money. When I attempt to get back to liberty to cruise around hidden, even neutral and even (get this..) normally friendlies start attacking me for some strange reason. Even Mactan starts attacking. Perhaps a not-so-subtle hint from the game developers to keep me from straying too far? This too happened in Stuttgart. Strange AIs.
I'm serious. Right before I got to Magellan, I was at the jump gate with Allied Bowex freighters. A moment later, when I get in Magellan, suddenly everything is an enemy, even the just-friendly Bowex freighters. Perhaps I should just take the Cortez route? Or maybe this is a not-so-subtle hint at keeping me in Bretonia and reachable Border world systems? Even the jump gate in Manchester to Magellan was once neutral. Ah well, I have no real need to get out anyway. The wrecks in NY are no good anyway.
I had a strange occurance. I was picking off Bounty Hunters at Deshima when a freighter showed up. The freighter was a friendly, so to keep a good rep with him I stood down and was jinking around to avoid the stations fire. The BH clods on the station hit the freighter and I got the blame! ("Watch your fire Freelancer". Everything including the TL's went red.

I had a similar thing few days ago. I was smuggling cardamine to Planet Manhatan. In NY I had a good rep with all the police etc. and also neutral with the Outcasts. But then in NY the outcast attacked me for no reason.
1. They were on a patrol with Liberty Rogues [bad rep so maybe that is because of them.
But later even without LB they attacked me.
Is it because of cardamine? [my cargo was full of it
But they didn't "ask" me to drop it.

it's because you were friendly with the police, and only neutral with them. So basically, since you were friendly with their enemies, and their enemies were around, they attacked you, as you are friendly with their enemies and therefore an enemy yourself. I hope this was not too confusing

I was at the Xenos' base doing missions for them in Hudson.... they were on the neutral+ (green) side of reputation, so all was great.
In one mission, I must have destroyed about 3 waves of 8 liberty rogues.. when backup Xenos' showed up. We wasted the rest of the rogues.. and I decided to align myself in formation with them.
Well, as luck has it, they flew right into the friggin sun! ALl of them exploded, except me.. I bailed out. Unfortunately, thereafter, my reputation went into neutral- (white/red)... as if I were the one who destroyed them!
Stupid AI! :-p

Actually now that you mention it, I think I was still friendly with them once I got into Magellan. At least, not until the trade lanes started shooting at me. There were some corsairs flying around. I think I might have hit a good guy trying to aim for the corsairs, maybe thats what happened, along with perhaps some of the trade lanes shooting at me and possibly hitting them. Of course when I was shooting at corsairs a way away and a enemy bowex was with me in a startracker, after cleaning up shop, the bowex flew away and was neutral. Strange things. I dont think Ill be headed back to Magellan for a while I guess.
I was over at Kansai Research Station (the one with all the mines) in Honshu and thought I'd find a backdoor. I eased around outside the mines and near the back of the mine field was a bunch of folks commiting suicide. I mean they were friendlies coming in on cruise and just ramming into the mines, screaming all the way in. I was standing out about 1K with engines offline enjoying the show when suddenly I got "Shield Failure, Hull Breach" in about a two second time span. HUH? I've got a level 10 shield on an Eagle and was at least 1K from any mines.

Yeah, the mines thing happens anywhere there are mines or any hazard like that. Doesn't matter if the faction put them there themselves. I call it the bug-light zapper effect. It's really annoying and immersion breaking but, eh, just don't hang out where the mines are if it really annoys you.
About reps changing - I think I've figured this one out having had it happen to me before. A faction owns the tradelanes and a station. This faction might be hostile to you. If it starts shooting and that faction is 'more friendly' with passing combatant ships then, regardless of their affiliation with you, those combatant ships will attack you. As weird as it is this makes sense as certain areas are dominated by certain folks and it behooves the explorer to know how all the factions fit together as much as possible. A friendly freighter passing through space hostile to you might seem to become suddenly hostile itself - but it's just checking how friendly it is with everyone involved before picking sides and if it's 'more green' with the local dominant faction, or any passing ship that's hostile, it will fire on you.
This wierdness can play in your favor. After a colorful career with The Mollys and Corsairs running gold, small arms and artifacts I'd made some enemies at Bowex among other places. Later on I'd mostly reformed and was on good terms with law enforcement in Kusari and Rheinland. Well, I was running a load of diamonds to New Tokyo when I popped through a jumpgate to encounter a bunch of hostile Bowex transports with escorts. These were law abiding traders who were fine until they went 'red' on me and suddenly my now friendly Kusari police came in to wipe them out.
You can see them wondering the same thing you are "Hey, the Kusari police are neutral to me - why are they shooting if I attack this (ex-)Molly ship? Why is the spaceport shooting at me too? Why are Samuri transports suddenly hostile?" The answer is, because I've done the Police alot of favors and they're not allied to Bowex. Bowex ship went red on me, that made the Kusari police go red, and then the station and Samura freighters, allied with the Kusari police, went red on the Bowex ships too.

this must be the most annoying strange happenings ever..
I was about to go into a jumpgate, the approach was fast but docking begins (you know, the bar disappear, leaving you with the black lines on top and bottom.) Suddenly, my clysdale hit the side of the opening arm and spun around.
Then I was heading in the direction not into the gate, and was just going on and on and on......have to reload..
and you are rather invulnerable too, as the outcast that was chasing me was shooting like crazy , but coudln't kill me..
Juni : Did I ever tell you that people are change by circumstancecs?
Trent : uhh[!..No?..
Juni : Well I did. Babble..babble..bla..bla..bla..
Trent : (Ok...ok.. do I get to sleep with you or not?)
