well, i seem to have fun pirating, making new chars, exploring, finding trade routes, and just helping my friends out. but if combat is your main focus in the game, have you dueled people?

well i explored everything, found all trade routes, amde money off the goods, haven't dueled people yet, that's a good idea thanks, so even if i duel, so the game is over after u explore everything and becomes duels? wil lget old quick, well there might be guild formed around those duels, so thanks for an idea

The most fun I've had is making a navy char for the kusari, rheinland, liberty and bretonia..
Using the navy's ship (had to change the equipment setup though),
I then patrol their borders, changing char's to whatever nation people are in....
I assist the navy and scan for smuglers, YES get blasted out of the sky more
often than not, but still it is fun, because I abit by the rules, of who to attack,
what is contraband(hehe only know a few =P) and when to let the fellon go,
because he got away in terms of borders. (lousy stinking ripoff)

I am still tweaking equipment on a non pvp server and then changing on the pvp one..
so any suggestions, like your own experiences, are most welcome....
I for exsample not sure of whether to go with the police ship drake or the navy dragon...
the handling of the drake is sweeeet!

The Dragon is my second favorite ship, my first being the Banshee which IMO is the best light fighter.

EDIT : And the best fun I've had is going on still. I made an escort service on Elite, and me and a few guys flying the Rehinland ships escort people for a fee.

See, this is the problem. Many people go at the main story mission like a bull in a China shop! Once they complete it, they feel they have nothing left to do.

I've spent about 10 hours exploring the New York system thoroughly, and haven't taken mission 2 yet. Exploring as you go along gives the game more longevity.
