Not Disapointed

At first I was disapointed by the mouse/keyboard only interface of FL. However, by using the keyboard mapping ability of FL and by using a joystick that has mapping capabilities it is not difficult to add that functionality. I use a Saitek stick and throttle. But, even so, the easiest and best action is to drive/fly with the mouse and map weapons through the stick. Being right handed, I control flight with the right hand on the mouse and map the most used keyboard commands to the Saitek which I keep my left hand on during combat. For general flying I just use the mouse and keyboard. Although it is possible to actually fly using the joystick, the mouse control is much better once you get used to it. I am very glad the option was included in FL to allow the game controls to be remapped and even provides the secondary mapping of keys.
I like it and think it's a great product.
thanks, hmt

I've got a Cougar HOTAS system with Elite pedals. Not that it helps me much here. Instead I'm using a Logitech trackball with a Strategic Commander device. The latter has many buttons as well as a twist function I've coded to use in-flight commands (and the twist for strafing). The combination works very well.

Since Freelancer is such a simple game one probably doesn't need all the functionality of a full HOTAS setup and that's fine by me I suppose.
