hmm... being able to take up a random trade mission is pointless cuz you can already make up your own trade route, make money from it, and increase your rep with the faction you're trading without having to "accept the job." Just go to a base, buy things that have the green square (or to make sure you get the most money, check the infocard to see if you're buying it at the lowest possible price), then check the list in the infocard, and head towards the base that will buy it at the highest price (or at least a high price)...
If you too lazy to create a traderoute, go into the bars, sometimes one of the rumors would tell you that the base you're currently at runs a shipment of a certain commodity to another base in the area. However, i noticed that with this method, you can always buy the commodity with a green buying price, and sell at only a yellow asking price.
maybe adding twists, like having shipments with a time limit or something, would make random trade missions work
