Weird after mission 13

I can't seem to go up levels once I finish mission 13 and get taken back to Manhatten. If I make enough money to level up it just keeps going and ends up more than the amount I need for the next level. Is this important or should I just keep playing and the second missions will come anyway? Thanks

Er, you do know that it displays how much you need to level, I'm not srue fi you do I just skimmed your post quickly.
