Pathfinding AI is a little b0rked

If I'm going from Liberty space to Kusari space, the AI always, *always* wants me to go through Galileo System instead of Kepler. Despite the fact that Kepler is faster and there's a place to dock in the middle. Just kind of annoying I guess.

Yeah, sometimes it's a little odd. I noticed a pretty ineffecient innersystem course plotting when i wanted to go from Planet Manhattan to Battleship Missouri. Instead of plotting the faster and shorter route via Fort Bush it selected the longer and slower way via West Point Academy.

i think its another way they use to give the player the feeling the space is BIG
my theory anyway

Mine tells me to go through california, manchester, and new london to get to leeds from new york...even though there's two shortcuts that let you bypas all of the above. Also, the waypoints will simply ignore jump holes...why that is, I don't know.

only "legal" ways are considered when calculating the best path, so no jump holes (thus only jump gates).

someone made a mod that also uses jump holes, take a look in the editing forum if u wanna try it.

yeah I know what you mean....

I also find it ridiculous that the navigation computer won't recognise jump holes and plot a course using them.

SICK of having to manually set waypoints to (e.g.) Omicron Gamma because the bloody thing won't do it for me....

Can't you just go to the universe map and click on the planet and then select plot course?

Don't flame me here because I haven't been to Omicron but that's the way it worked for me. Even if I hadn't been to a system before and had only seen the jumphole or gate to get there, the flight computer would allow me to plot a waypoint in that unknown system and then it would plot the best course for me to get there.

as said before, the comp those not use any jumpholes, which means he can not find ANY paths to all the intersting systems, cause they have no gates.

the pathfinding system simply does not know what part of the maps you know or not, itself has its own map that it can use right from the beginning. (would have been nice to be able to upgrade it )

Yeah the biggest thing for me is the way it ignores jumpholes. They can make travel SO much faster. Maybe someone can figure out how to make the thing use them...

Well, I bet the damn thing is made by DSE and the other tradelane/jump gate partner, when you get the description of a jump hole it reads:

>>>>>>>WARNING: GRAVITATIONAL ANOMILY AHEAD<<<<<<<<<<
A jumphole is a naturaly occurs phenomena that functions very similarily to a jump gate, however (whoever makes jump gates, I cant remember) cannot assure that jumpholes are safe and suggest only using jump gates.

Occasionally the way point is on the other side of the planet and the AI tries to make you fly into the planet.

I have also had a couple of close calls with suns

Post Thu Apr 10, 2003 5:54 am

The AI always goes around suns for me, but I have had it taking me close enough to planets that I take over cuz I get scared it's gonna try to land

I think the other company is Agiera, but I'm not 100% on that.
