I think shes going to the Box

Last night i think at 11:00 on G4 the gaming channel there show Cinescape showed some footage from Freelancer and after it was done it said Freelancer- Xbox-Summer 2003. We thought it was going to happen and it looks like it will.

Could that be the reason joysticks were removed?

"Could that be the reason joysticks were removed?"

Why would releasing the game on xbox be a reason to remove joystick support?

Post Tue Apr 08, 2003 9:43 pm

there is no reason. if FL had joystick support they'd simply remove it in the xbox port.

This is my Eagle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

And they would remove it from the xbox port because... ?

Even if it was for the Xbox, the ideas for Freelancer are so poorly executed that it needs to be modded, which cannot happen on a console.....

I think the Xbox version, if there's going to be one would be at a loss.....look at all the great mods and the people working on them for the PC right now.....I doubt the Xbox version of FL would have that much potential if you couldn't change it....unless M$ and DA did something totally disgusting, like make a 'new & improved' version of FL with engine and scanner upgrades, multiple mission types on a larger scale, along with the Starblazer, all of which were scrapped, but files for which still exist in the PC install.....

ew..I hope it doesnt go to x-box "new and improved" that would really piss me off.., but knowing the way the world works it will, things that piss me off tend to happen often, I have g4 and watch it religiously...never heard a peep about freelancer though...probably since it was 11, I dunno

another problem with an x-box version is.. no mods!!!
therefore no workarounds if things get FUBAR.

Post Wed Apr 09, 2003 6:39 am

not true, they could easily add more systems to an x box version, IE Mechassault, they have maps for that online made by microsoft and plan to make new playable mechs..this is made possibel by the fact that the x-box hada hard drive, Im prety sure they could add things to the game..but hte basic engine would need some work before going to console so its fixed..permently, with user changable settings...

re: joystick removal

Sorry, should have had my tongue placed more firmly and prominantly in my cheek. Perhaps a smiley would have helped . I was simply poking a little well-meaning fun at this forum that restricts posts about joysticks in the game.

"if FL had joystick support they'd simply remove it in the xbox port."

I can confirm that this was on G4. I saw it too. It stood out right away because there were very significant differences in the HUD and some of the graphics. The gunsight was larger and more like a long range targeting reticle (like sniper mode type). They also seemed a lot more mobile. The targeting around neighboring ships seemed cleaner somehow, lines weren't as thick and there was only 1 life bar, like the trade rings in the PC version. Or maybe the ships didn't have sheilds? But they were transports and stuff...

Also, there were a number of Turret type views zooming around the ships, especially through trade lanes. This was especially noticable because there was a nice warp-type effect around the ship, like it was blazing a trail through the trade lane. Yellow sparks around the front of the ship streaming off behind it.

I guess with the way the target reticle was moving about independently of the ship movement you'll probably control them with both sticks, left for ship movement and right for targeting, maybe? And shoot from the shoulder buttons with the face buttons used for countermeasures and sheild batteries/nanos?

The cut-scene and base stuff seemed the same as the PC, so maybe DA and M$ is only updating the flight graphics. Hopefully they'll patch the PC version with some of the same stuff. Looked almost better somehow, especially with the trade lane effect. I thought "Mine doesn't do that!"

Anyway, just thought I'd confirm the sighting.

About the sparks and stuff behind other ships in trade lanes: Mine does that! If i am outside a trade lane and something whizs by it has sparks infront and lines in back

Actually the X-Box and PS2 controllers would probably work with FL pretty well. You could use one analog stick to fly, the D-pad to cycle through the targeting menus (left and right for ship/loot/etc., up and down for each object), and the second analog stick could aim the turrets.

As far as mods go... I'm sure M$ would create some official content (with DA or, more likely, with whoever creates the port) and have it available to those with the X-Box's online support.
