maybe if I start nagging, Digital Anvil will listen to my ti

Somthing I think will mak freelancer's sequel (please don't tell me there won't be a sequel..) better: supplies.

#1 The player's ship should actual run on fuel .The player should have to buy more H-fuel when he/she needs more. The fuel should be stored in the wings or something so that it DOES NOT take up cargo space. The fuel should constantly be decreasing unless the player turns his/her engines off. The fuel should decrease more rapidly if the ship is on after burner and even more rapidly if in Cruise. If the player ever runs out of fuel, there should be an emergency generator which does not need fuel, but is significantly less powerful.

#2 The player should consume food/water. The consumption of fuel/water should work similarly to the fuel, except for two things; if the player runs out of food/water and does not get more for x amount of time, he/she dies. And the food SHOULD take up some argo space.

I think that these would be very good additions to the game and make it a little more involved. If anyone from Digital Anvil even bothers to read this, that is...

Sounds interesting. A lot of people wouldn't go for it, but I, personally, think it would make the game more interesting.

So if the engines are off it doesn't drain fuel?

Simple way to get around that.. hold the afterburner then press z or whatever your engine kill button is. Intertia is a wonderful thing.

Hm... i think that sophisticated spaceships would use some sort of advanced reactor technology. Like nuclear driven submarines or aircraft carriers nowadays don't need fuel, so the Freelancer spaceships don't need any as well. Would be an interesting addition to make exploring a little more exciting, though.

Concerning the food issue: i believe that keeping a stock of food and water will become annoying with time without really adding to the gameplay. Arx Fatalis is a good example. At the beginning it was cool to make bread and cakes and stuff, but after some time it just sucked having to do it again and again.

well, I suppose civilization would have developed some more sophisticated means of propulsion, which did not require fuel. However, according to our commodity listing, H-fuel is the primary fuel for propulsion systems in the Sirius sector. So there would be limited fuel. As for the thing about food, I suppose it would be really annoying..so there could be an option to activate/deactivate the need for food and fuel. Kind of like a difficulty setting. I guess I'm just dreaming. I doubt they'll include limited fuel OR food for the simple fact that it doesn't appeal to everyone *sigh* I still think it would be great, though.

I think people would probably find this more annoying than anything. Some trade runs are long enough without having to stop for fuel.

@maswastage/BG

nice idea though .... reminds me of wing commander ... except when u ran out of fuel .. u became space debris! hahahahha

anyone saw the post about adding a device slot? .. that was pretty good! .. hope DA saw that post!

well..if they can't add limited supplies, maybe just some more things to tinker with? upgradable ship computers? Upgradable sensors? In short- more internal equipment.

now upgradeable system are a way other thing than the requirement of fuel and/or food.

i would *never* go for the latter, but i agree with the systems

H-fuel is used in nuclear reactors.
I wonder how long that will last.

10 years? Maybe more?
