All-In-Wonder 9700 + Freelancer + Thruview = Bliss!

I just got a All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro video card, and it's thre greatest gaming creation in the history of mankind. For those who don't know, the All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro is a normal Radeon 9700 Pro video card with a decent cable tuner/video adapter package jammed on it.

The TV component has some great capabilities. In addition to making the PC essentially a Tivo, it has a feature called Thruview. Thruview lets you run a TV window (or even a full screen) semi-transparent in the background. It blends your active image with the TV image so both are still intelligible. Great while your word processing, but I was hesitant to use it with anything 3D, didn't even think it would work.

Well my worries were unfounded since the TV and 3D components are integrated, as I most wonderfully discovered I can run it with Freelancer just fine. So up in that empty upper left corner of the hud I now always run a Thruview window with Freelancer. Sure takes the bore out of those long travel times. Heh, it's like my ship is equiped with cable TV!

The AIW also came with a RF remote control, which still works on the TV even when it's not the active app. So I can even still change channels and adjust the volume without having to exit Freelancer. Ah, it is bliss indeed.

I'm sure I would end up crashing into a planet or something... I tend to get distracted by some of the...erm... programs I watch on TV. Hehe.

Ah that's what autopilot is for...besides with mouse control you only need one hand to fly

This is my Eagle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Good for you. Enjoy the new video card. I have a Radeon 9700 Pro. I am quite satisfied with it.

I came. I saw. I conquered. And sometimes get conquered.

strange that it works with freelancer.

I found it actually works with all 3D games, I just never tried it before, Still, the only game I play where it's appropriate (e.g. the only game where I don't need 100%l concentration) is Freelancer, plus it fits so nicely in that upper left corner

LOL, yeah that'd be one heck of a long cable!

I actually upgraded from a GeForce 3 Ti 200, and the game ran fine for me as well even with maxxed settings. However, with the Radeon I can enable 8-tap anisotropic filtering and 4X antialiasing and still get better performance than with the GF3. The filtering gets rid of all those mip-map lines and the AA gets rid of any jaggies, and the game truely looks not just good, but spectacular. Plus, I always heard a rumor that ATI cards had better color control than nVidia cards and I can confrim that's true; colors look so much richer on the Radeon.
