Please help me decide

Hey all, I was hoping some of you would be willing to help me out. I am shopping for a new graphics board, and I'd love it if someone would be willing to post some screenshots so I could see them.

And if ya have anything ya'd like to say about vid cards that'd be awesome too.

I'm thinking a 9700 or GF4. Thanks a lot, guys!

I don't know if it's a good idea to use just FL as a measure of the features and support in the 2 major competing gfx cards. Putting a souped-up gfx card in an underpowered system still makes you turn off many of those fancy quality options for the sake of framerate, thus negating their usefulness. There are numerous hardware sites with reviews that compare and contrast ATI vs. nVidia... and you're going to find staunch supporters in both camps. My suggestion is just find out the facts, not the hype, and choose the best features/performance you can afford.

I have a new system with a 9700 Pro card and I am very happy with it. With the latest drivers installed, I have zero problems with Freelancer, or any other game on my system. So obviously I would recommend that card.

That being said, I have never used a GeForce card so I can't comment. Maybe they are better. I usually find that the differences between high end cards are differences that are not visible to the human eye, but then again, I wear glasses so maybe my human eyes are faulty.

At any rate, as for myself, you can't go wrong with the 9700 Pro. At least I haven't yet.

Those are my thoughts, not yours, I'm WapCaplet[!

i myself use a sapphire 9700 (non-pro) card. its not much slower than a pro and costs about 70-100$ less, no problems in any games and it lets me run FL at 1600x1200x32 with all detail on.. provided you have fast enough CPU

Lol i just ordered my 9700 pro yesterday!

Should be here tomorrow or the day after that!

9700 pro molests gf4 ass
9700 pro almost drowns GF FX!
9700 pro keeps up with GF FX Ultra

yep nice card indeed, graphics look amazing in games and when you turn the filtering and antialiasing on, it beats not only gf4 cards but also the FX

I have already looked at the hardware sites, that's why I was just wanting to see the difference (if I can see it that is). I have heard that with all the features turned on GF's get higher framerates but ATI's look better.

Uh, well, I don't know what hardware sites you were looking at, but they should be showing screen grabs to compare the quality features...

owned both the gf4 ti4200 and the radeon 8500 retail.. the quality of 16x ansotropic on the ati card- which you can't do on a gf4, blows away anything I've seen in 3d- I'm old school too.. tweak the hell outta my systems and started on a voodoo2.. go with the radeon and you won't be disappointed.. you can also voltage mod with a pencil and some heatsinks to make it sick and rage3d owns rivatuner hands down
