Darth Vader & Smiling Ships

is it just me or does the layout of the systems look like Darth Vaders helmet? Also the Titan, a great exploration vessel by the way due to heavy armor, looks like it is smiling when you get the cut sceens at the planet landing, Equipment dealer. I also think If I was just going to kill ships etc. I would own the Sabre as the foreward facing turret yes even with the big guns from the outcasts would make more sense. Most of the complaints I have read about regard the lack of substantial missions but I think most people seem in a hurry to get to the end and see what happens. Rome wasn't built in a day sit back relax explore every nook and cranny in each system you never know what you will find ships, jump holes secret bases etc. This is an experience to enjoy. Rushing through and then complaining about how it only took you X amount of hours is like slamming a glass of hand made whisky down and not savoring the flavor by sipping and enjoying. I agree with most people that there could be a little more depth while on the planets. ie: explore the surface of the world, get to go down the hallways, perhaps see the seamier side of the station (a babylon 5 type comes to mind). But overall I rate this game very highly due to the overall play structure and interaction with different factions. Some time turn off your engines and listen to the chatter when two factions are fighting and you are neutral to both. It can be both funny and enlightening as you can scan ships and see what equipment you may be up against next. Just some thoughts from from the edge of space.

He is right about the plotted systems on the map of Sirius forming the shape of Darth Vaders helmet...

Never thought about it....But it makes sense....

Think of all the other Star Wars references.....

"She'll hold to gether. You hear me baby, hold together"

and other such references...

I think that DA is a bunch of Star Wars fans...Which is cool.

Hmmm....Anyone else think the mission at the end sort of feels like a Death Star Run? Outnumbered...and out gunned, but not outclassed? (think about it....)

Not going deeper then that...That would be a spoiler....

Something Awful

Thanks for the validation of the Darthvader helmet thing. I thought it was due to too many hours stareing into space. As to the Titan look at it from the equipment dealers point of view it looks like an eye and below a smiling mouth no kidding. I agree with all the Star Wars references (no spoilers) but a certain mission looked an awful lot like the first movies ending. There is a lot to do even after you reach max levels as you can explore being anything you want much more easily when you don't have to buy stuff to survive. Probably the only knock on some of the systems is the radiation damage. I mean I don't mind that you have some systems with areas that can do that but it seems somewhat excessive for a game that prides it's self on exploration and interaction. Just a thought from the edge of space.

Actually I think the radiation damage is a nice touch. Adds a little "spice" to just flying around looking for things.

Thought I'd incorporate a question lingering in my mind while I'm at it. When your scanner efficiency is reduced, does that also mean you can't pick up jump holes on your map as well or is visible range what plots those on your map?

It's scanner range, not visible range. And as far as I can tell being in reduced scanner range does affect jumphole detection. You have to get really damn close to stuff in those situations before your map plots it.

And I never noticed the Darth Vader helmet before. That's pretty cool.

That's a negative. The plotting of jump holes and other stuff on the nav map ISN'T affected by the sensor efficiency reduction. They may not show up on your target list but they sure appear on the nav map as long as you get as close as 6km, which is the same distance at which they show up under normal sensor conditions.

I agree about the sensor reduction as it affects more your ability to see the enemy ships rather than jump holes or planets. I do notice you have to be fairly close to jump holes and "lost" ships to get them up on your Nav Map. I think you mis-understood my comment about the radiation damage. I don't mind that it is in the game it keeps you from lingering about but it seems that if you have a good shield it should protect your ships hull a little better. I mean you have to use nanobots to stay there and then when you finally get to the equipment dealer it costl like 6-8 thousand dollars to repair what the nano's should have been doing. I am sure the bill would be more if you didn't use them but still what good are they if the cost of repair is going to be so high when you get back to the base? It really doesn't matter as much when you are at the higher levels but it could be a problem if like some people you spent your lifes fortune on a better ship and weapons then went to say Omicron Alpha looking for .......(no spoiler) and got caught up in the radiation field. By the time you got back you would probably spent 10k to repair your ship and weapon systems. There really is radiation in space and sometimes it is stronger than others so I like the fact it is accurate in that respect I am just saying it seems to do a bit more damage than I think it should is all.... Just some thoughts from the edge of space.

Yea I bet those guys must have watched those movies a thousand times as an awful lot of references come up. Believe it or not the line of "you must be new here" came from the movie. I really like listening to the AI's as they are being shredded by cannon fire. "I've lost life support" NO DUH! I just ripped your ship appart with level 10 cannon fire. "I'm on Fire!" Yep I can see that out of my window! "I'm bugging out their just too strong right now", Too bad sweetheart my dad always said never start something you are unprepared to finish "BLAM", "I can't believe their engaging me!", "I've got some fool on my six", Yes that would be me as you were determined to get in my face and fire first I feel obligated to litter space with your chared remains."KaBOOM". Some of the out world bars do have a little different questions and a real attitude when you talk to the bar tender I think they remind me of the guy that had Luke take the droids out as "we don't allow their kind in here"! Keep an ear and eye out for more vague and not so vague references as you go along it is great fun. Oh in case you were wondering how I figured out the Darth Vader Helmet deal. I took a screen shot of the system and was marking systems with names by them so I could make a better jump map. You might say I was connecting the dots and hello, there he was! Sometimes the best discoverys are accidental. Just some thoughts from the edge of space.
