Missile down his throat during fly by strategy

I'm not very far in the game (just met Juni in Ca) but so far it seems that missiles are too easy for the AI to juke off. So the most effective use of missiles for me is to load up on some huge, damaging missile, wait for him to do a "flying towards me" fly by, and shove it down his throat.

The double relative velocity makes it impossible for him to maneuver out of the way, and his countermeasures are facing the wrong way.

Is this how you guys do it?

We don't, we use guns. The missiles just don't have a good enough damage-to-refire rate or homing abilities to justify their cost.

I don't use missiles either (after reading the feedback here), but what I do in those situations is, while they are headed towards me, open up with guns, and then at the last minute, drop a mine. They inevitably hit the mine on their way past. If it doesn't kill them, it does most of the work.

I have never used a missile, ever. I sell every launcher I find and have never purchased any missile ammo. I am very happy with guns. They fire fast and they are accurate and you don't have to buy ammo for them.

However, I really like that mine idea. I've never used mines either, but that "drop-it-on-the-fly-by" idea has merit. I'm gonna try that. Thanks!

I use missles, well, one, i like the cheap use it and lose it missle. They come in on the missiion runs and they are dead by the time the 2 or 3 pass me. Guess im lazy. I dont use 6 but I do like having 1 or 2. Just for fun.

torps are very useful for taking out stations... even tho they mve at 50m/s fire ur afterburners FIRST then the torp moves at 250 m/s... and 2400 dmg aint that bad... altho in the long run guns are more cost effective...

I like missiles. Since they have a range of 1000m, I can usually puch off 5 or 6 before I pass the enemy ships, and, since missiles have a blast radius, I usually end up damaging more than one enemy. They are expensive though, it currently costs me about $19,000 to fully refill my launcher.

Missiles can be great fun...when used right... In messing around, I decided to equip a pair of Javelin missile launchers i picked up from a random mission... I would do the same strategy you said, wait for the flyby and ram em down the enemies throats. The early guys you fight, this can half their sheidls or more, and if you can drop the shields from your fire first, they destroy the hull. I'd like to add, however, that I've found this is only beneficial with a newer character....once you start getting higher in rank and are fighting tougher enemies, it doesn't work so well...

you know whats fun..take off all yer guns, put max missle launchers on yer ship...go fly around firing volleys of 6 missles at people...expensive, but fun, lemme know if youve met me while Ive been doing this is MP

In a straight head-on attack, you can sometimes pound people with a mine or torpedo.

If you have the sunslayer torpedo, this can be pretty effective

the second time i was playing SP, i decided to make use of one of the javelin launchers i picked up, cuz i also picked up like 6 javelins on the same mission. i docked, re-fit my ship (defender, it was early in the SP) then, i launch again, go into the most enemy-infected trade lane, and they distrupt me... i start the normal run.. afterburn... get my guns rolling... i concentrated on just one guy... for experiment's sake.. then that particular guy decides to take me on a head on fight. he shoots, i shoot. my shield goes ( i nvr bothered upgrading at that time) his shield goes... i keep shooting while back-thrusting..so i can shoot more. then, his armour is at half, mine is 4/5.. i afterburn, realease a javeling straight down his throat when he's rite in front of me, he gets hit, big flash.. next thing i kno, i'm thrown off course by the impact, and i see where he's gone, and figured he'd gone to RIP. (of course, this was while i was eating some porridge mixed with 100 plus.) then, after a series of experiments, i figured javelins are the cheapest and most conventional missile, (though i haven't tried the more expensive ones) out of many earlier missiles. they do the most damage with least homing abilities, which u don't rilly need when ur launcher-feeding the rogues. and i also figured it does more damage to armour than shields, and more on its head rather than its engines, some head:tail 6:1 ratio.
once, i accidentally dropped a torp at the coming rogue, and blasted both him and me to space dust...but so far, i dun rely on mines yet so far.. juni seems to though... and i find that the javelins work better at rheinland valkaryies for some reason.

presently, my world is upside down, so if u do not mind, u'll have to tok to my a$$

i will use a hard point for missles if I have one, otherwise, i just use torpedos, and usually if I'm recharging or head to head. But yeah, I agree you have to be head to head or chasing not far behind, to get a missle kill.

btw...the stuff I tractor in from a missle kill easily pays for the missle, it sort of evens out costwise.

I use the Stalkers or all that end with stalker they turn faster seek faster and fly faster but they dont do as much damg as a cannonball missle

My personal preference missile wise is the Lancer. Destructive power vs. cost it's the best missile in the game. Damage is almost equivalent to the Starkiller Torpedo. Though it's mostly a "Chicken" missile. (Meaning it's most effective when someone's flying straight at you and you launch the missile just before he / she goes by you.)
