Fail on purpose...what happens?

I am still working on the SP missions and haven't made it very far, but I was curious about something.

I know that you can ignore Juni for a while and go about your own business and then just go find her when you want to continue, but what happens if you take off DURING a mission? Or if a ship you are escorting gets destroyed? Or if Juni gets destroyed? What happens? Do you have to reload or does the nature of the SP story alter to affect your actions?

I guess the best way to find out is to just do it myself, but I'm sitting here at work wondering about it and I am sure some of you can fill me in. For example, there is a very early mission where you have to go save a station from being destroyed. What would happen if I abandoned the other ships and went off in search of glory and money elsewhere? Would my allies die, forcing me to reload? Would the station actually get blown up, despite the fact that many posts have denied that bases can even BE destroyed?

You get the idea...so tell me, what happens?

Actually, I tried this out of curiosity. I was doing mission 3 and just decided to leave because I wanted to check it out. Juni'll complain that you're not moving fast enough, and eventually (after a few minutes) it'll display a mission failure screen where you must load a previous game.

Obviously, you guys know more about the sp missions than I, because I haven't tried to do that. However, I can tell you that it is impossible for Juni, and several other major figures in the sp storyline, to die. That's the way the game was designed.

Juni can die in one or 2 missions, but most of the time she is indeed invulnerable.

As a follow up to my original question, here's a similar one.

What happens if I decline a mission that Juni has offered me? I don't want to give details so I don't spoil anything, but there have been times when it seems like Juni is saying "We must do this or we'll die and everything will be terrible, etc, etc" but then it gives me the option to actually decline the mission. What happens?

I have a theory, which is it probably just lets you freelance for a while but you must eventually accept the mission and complete it in order to advance to further levels, etc. Anyone ever declined a SP story mission?

You should be able to not take the mission all the same...

I turned down her mission once, just to see what happens. Juni got ticked off at me and said that she "might still be here" if I reconsider. I suspect that she will loiter around until the player comes back to accept the mission.

Refusal can make Juni angry, but she will stay put forever. It is often amusing to have her go mad at you for endangering the future of the universe, then go away fro hours to make a fortune, come back and she'll act like nothing has happened - no matter how many times you refuse her offer. However, to avoid making it totally stupid, by the last missions (where the **** has really hit the fan), you don't get an option to refuse, and you can only accept the suicide missions.
