IGN predicting Freelancer on the XBox

Post Tue Mar 25, 2003 8:49 am

LOL, funny. But too bad im not a sucke....er....uh...paying customer so i cant see the article. But it is just a prediction and from our discussions with DA, it really looks like Freelancer WILL NOT be on the XBox. That's my prediction.

Luckely I´m not a fool....erm...customer either

I really don´t see how they could port FL to the Xbox in a correct way without losing a lot of great features the PC version has. It simply wouldn´t work right and IMO the result certainly wouldn´t weigh the effort. Besides, I really don´t think it would gain any substantial ground among the Xbox community.

I beg to differ,

I have noted that asides from hotkeys I don't do any "typing" so not having a keyboard won't kill you. My head is already going through that myriad of buttons on an xbox controller and how it could be mapped out....

Multiplayer chat you would lose some of, but with xBox live you have voice, imagine being able to have actual voice com channels when running group action...

I hope they do port Freelancer to the Xbox. Given how much MS tech it already runs atop it shouldn't be that hard. If Freelancer sales well on the Xbox it would make it more likely that Freelancer 2 could go into production or a free mini-expansion pack could be made for PC and Xbox.

Uhm... Mouse anyone?

Given the console feel of Freelancer, I fully expected this game to be ported to the Xbox as well. I made the same prediction about the game before it's release, while playing the demo. Somebody posted that DA had said they have no plans to port the game, but I've never actually seen it from DA or MS.

If you look at the game, it's hard to miss the fact that it's extremely dumbed down and streamlined in many respects.

Personally, I think it'd be quite odd if they released this for the XBox, which would require controlling through a gamepad, when that means essentially the same thing as allowing joystick support.

Remember that you can already control your ship movement with the keyboard. You could use either the dual joysticks or the buttons on the game controller for a console version. It probably woudln't be anymore unwieldy than playing a ported FPS for the console.

I'd buy it if it came out for the X-box.

Don't think of it as being outnumbered. Think of it as having a larger target selection.

I hope it's not ported to the Xbox, simply because I am a die-hard anti-Microsith person, and I hope the Xbox dies a slow and painful death

I've been saying from day one that freelancer was a console game and now we see MS's true colors.. Too bad they didn't make a true computer game without worrying about it running on the x-box.

Come to think of it, though, it'd actually be pretty damn cool if FL came to XBox. Then I could start using the headset and chat with other FL players and junk.

I would have to see how hard it would be to target and fire before I would buy it for XBOX.

If it played OK then I might consider it for the voice chat.
Nothing beats XBOX Live for multiplayer "SOCIAL" fun.
But if the controller was too difficult to use without dumbing down the game.
I don't think I would go for it.
Just me and my 2 cents.

I'd love to be able to play freelancer from my couch/bed

Of course I could just hook my computer up to my TV and get a wireless keyboard and mouse
