Another idea...
I had another cool idea for Freelancer.
What if you could get loans from people? This would come in handy, especially at the start of the game, or later on when you are in some of the more difficult systems and need that extra cash to upgrade your ship or something. Obviously there would be interest due, and a time frame in which the money must be repaid.
But the cool feature would be that if you didn't pay it back in time, the lender would start to harass you, or even put a bounty on your head and have other people start tracking you down for payment.
This could also be extended to missions where you have to transport a commodity or smuggle illegal cargo for someone. If you lost the shipment for some reason (think Han Solo dumping Jabba's spice shipment), you would owe the mission owner money or risk reputation loss or possible bounty hunters on your tail.
Just some more ideas to make the game more rich. You know, the fact that this game seems to spark so much discussion about new features and ideas says a lot about this game. I think it is one of those games that challenges your imagination and is a fantastic game for people like me, who thrive on imagination and discovery. The game is only limited by the boundaries of your own mind. I wonder if those people who got bored of the game quickly are simply lacking in imagination, or a part of imagination. I don't mean that to be a flame, so don't turn this into a flame thread. Just an interesting observation.
Anyway, those are my thoughts, not yours, I'm WapCaplet!
