Lots of newbie questions

I've just started playing this game and already memories of Elite are flooding back to me. Anyway I have a few basic questions that I hope you guys can help me with.

1. Approx how many missions are there, I think I am level 10 at the moment and was wondering how long the plot of the game goes on for.

2. I dont know what to do about uncharted planets, can I do anything with these? I dont see anywhere to dock.

3. Making money - I can't be arsed to trade, I like killing things, how much money do you need for the killer ships? At the moment I have just bought a heavy fighter, I got this simply by doing enough missions of say 5k - 10k a piece. Is trading worth it?

4. Are there any places in particular to go to get heavy duty weapons. I came across a military ship who had the only heavy fighter I have been able to buy. Is it possible to get the good items on the regular planets?

5. Can space stations be blown up. I'd love to give it a go and get a full on mad rating.

Thanks for the help.

***SPOILER***
1. There are 13 single player missions.

2. Sorry, you can't do anything with a planet without docking rings

3. Trading is the qiuckest way to get rich in the game, if you go for it (ie buy the biggest freighter you can get your hands on and visit many bases so you get their price lists) For example, the best one-way trade route in the biggest freighter has a profit of over $500000

4. Just check out all bases you find. Most bases (in the same system/territory) will have similar weapons, while others have equipment a few classes higher.

5. Nope sorry. In general, anything you can dock with cannot be blown up

chaldan has said it all

but i would just like to add, sometimes missions are more interesting than trade runs, since you get paid about 250k per mission you run

if ure quick, you can usually do about 2-3 missions it takes for them to complete on cargo run

Well, trading is the quickest way to make $$$ when you are in the lower levels...depending on your location when you are a higher level player you can make 250k + the money you make from selling any items/cargo that you pick up...

I've noticed that, as mentioned above, most bases in the same system will sell similar weapons/armor, but criminal bases tend to have a different selection. Get on the good side of the wrong side of the law to see what they got.

I keep some scratch paper nearby to scribble down interesting weapons/armor/ships whenever I visit bases... that way, when I need, say, a class 6 graviton shield, I know where to get it.
