Heavy fighters in liberty

I didn't know where to post this question so I created a new topic for it:

why are there no affordable heavy fighters with equipment rating at least as good as the starviper in liberty at the begining of the sp capaign?

I mean the starviper is good if you like light fighters, but I like heavy fighters, and it just feels like going with the defender is downgrading

I sort of agree. I was in the Star Viper through all of the Liberty missions and never found a comparable or one to take its place in any fashion to my liking, until Bretonia.

the liberator is a, not affordable, and b not available till a much higher level

I think Iwill just settle for the starviper till bretonia and get the 'steers-like-a-pregnant-whale' er I mean crusader heavy fighter
