***PROJECT*** Freelancer SDK (Software Development Kit)

Hey all. Ive begun assembling a crew and working on preliminary tutorials for a Freelancer SDK. We have completed about 4 tutorials with about 5 more in progress. It would be awesome if I could get more people writing for this. This will be a full SDK with .ini guides, .dll guides, quick refrence guides on variables, tutorials, and any utilities developed for us modders.

If you feel that you have anything you could contribute, please contact the FLSDK team at [email protected]

For initial contact, please contact me by email -- being IMed constantly is becoming slightly distracting. In the contact email, please tell me exactly what it is that you wish to do, and your qualifications, plus contact info.

Also, if current members could email me this information also. (Trying to get everything organized.)

You can also contact me at:

AIM: Xelot 1001
ICQ: 171891578
MSN: [email protected]
YIM: Xelot1001

Anything and everything you can contribute would be awesome, so far the following people are working with me on this:

FLSDK Crew
-------------

SuPaFrEaK (Editor-In-Chief/Webpage Designer)
Genius (Writer)
ThresholdRPG (Writer)

IGx89 (Programmer)
Junkie (Programmer)

Sycleoth (Mesher/Texturer)

I hope to work with you all, and thank you for your support and intrest.

Note: I will add a list of completed tutorials when I get home. Also, I will update the roster and contact info by *editing* this post, so check back freqently for updates.

Note Mk II: I have two email addresses, the [email protected] is my personal EMAIL address, [email protected] is my MSN account. Please use the [email protected] for the SDK related email, and [email protected] for my MSN.

I believe you misspelled your own e-mail address. It's supposed to be: [email protected]

IGx89: Please Refer to my second note.

Any Moderator: Could you please make this topic sticky so people will be able to see this thread, and so I can get more people to work with me on this. Thank you.

I would like to welcome IGx89 to the Freelancer SDK Team as a resident programmer. We will be utalizing his very flexable flinstaller, which is a mod installer program.

Again, things are coming together nicely. Keep it up, team!

We have another programmer, Junkie, who will be working on a graphical system editor. This looks like a major time saver.

Great idea, but is it...legal?

Post Thu Mar 13, 2003 3:28 am

Absolutely! The only thing that might not be legal is if we edit the actual freelancer.exe file; I haven't read the license, though, so even that could be legal.

Post Thu Mar 13, 2003 5:05 am

It is legal as long as you purchased Freelancer. Once you by it everything on the cd is your property. You just can't redistribute it for purchase. If someone mods the freelancer.exe and posts it, it is still legal to download and use as long as the downloader has a license. Not everyone is smart enough to download just the freelancer.exe and make the game run.

Hey, i would want to help. I make 3D models and love to mod games. Only problem is they dont sell the darn game in my town. Also is there any modding tools for Lightwave 3d made for this game?

Post Thu Mar 13, 2003 6:22 am

No, buying the CD doesn't make freelancer your property.. they're actually pretty clear about the fact that what you buy is a LICENSE to USE their software... buying the CD doesn't make the software yours.

hey Sycleoth-
We don't really need 3D artists at the moment. We want to get as many tutorials done as possible. Basically we are trying to write How-To's and Reference guides/tables right now. Maybe later we can mess with custom textures/models, if someone writes a program to install/replace new models. But if you'd like to help out anyway, contact Kru Noctum on AIM - Im sure we can find something for you to do.

Heh, who knows? Maybe you can take over for me as I get all the tutorials together and get them posted on our website.

does anyone realy give a flying chuff if we own the cd we paid for or not??
can you realy see Micro$hatf hammering your door down cos you modified a few ini files for your own use?

If they made a proper game they wouldnt need to worry about people changing things. Look at halflife, origonaly a realy realy naff game,l et Joe Public loose on the code and you get a halfway good game. Beta testing should be done by people who have little or no interest in the games concept so they are not biased. I bet 90% of the testers for FL were FL nuts b4 the game hit alpha, this is not the way to test a game.

Maybe they should use the same techniques as they do for OS, sell you it for £100+ and use everyone as testers, then release a slightly better edition under the disguise of a Service Pack. IMHO M$ should give people cash back for every service pack, security patch they have to download, kina compensation for selling you an incomplete package.

Rant over, man I need a smoke....

I realy should refrain from posting to forums from work, as I just get too angry.

I wouldn't call half-life, the FPS that paved the way for story driven games in a then stagnant genre of mindless shooters, a bad game.
