Nighthound - any idea is a great idea, because somewhere someone will benefit. Not everyone can be bothered to learn the basics of modding - and one question we often get is 'Is there a tool that you can use to make mods'. Simply put - people want to load a tool up, click some buttons, and come out with their own version of TNG.
If you can make a weapons mod - that will create a new weapon, add it to whichever station the person wants to sell it at, gives the choice of beam colour, size, intensity etc, shot sound, velocity, lifetime, hit points and everything else - then go for it - because some will benefit from it.
The only problem with this is IF it has bugs. If you chose an option and it crashes, or something doesn't work right etc - then its a problem.
Why? Because those people will not be able to debug the thing - and will not expect to want to. They will want a complete product that does everything free of charge and 100% perfect. If you can provide it - you will be doing fantastically well. If you can only half provide it, the sad fact is that you will get complaints, hate mail and worse.
So go for it, it would be a nice coding project.....but beware that you may attract lots of emails/bugs/hate mail to yourself in the process - as well as the naturally 'hostile' reception many tool makers have received (from other toolmakers who compare yours to their perfection in programming standards....regardless of if their tool is good or bad itself!).
DON'T let this put you off, I just wanted to make sure your aware that you may get some bad stuff - but basically, it would be a nice tool for beginners
