Colin''s utilities Bug Thread

Mmm... well I kicj of the bug reporting with this:

My Turrets aren't 360 degrees.

I've set them up like nromal in MilkShape.

the name of the hardpoint is:

Hp/Revolute/HpTurret01

and the hardpoint works in-game.. just it doesn't rotate 360... just 45 degrees like guns.

other than that.. so far this look really good. the scaling factor and the new rotational optios are REALLY helpful... having to do a battleship in MilkShape is a PAIN when it's soo huge only a small section is visible due to the camera's cull plane...

turret rotation in single model export.

I too like the plug in seems to work well.... I understand it will aslo work for weapons.. though I presume you still have to enter the .mat components.

I have been using redeyes meshconverter and have found it really useful for weapons creation, but harder to get right for ships.. this should fix the ships "dissappearing" trick and allow us to use better lod ranges... ahh... the experimentation...

Graet job no probs so far.. still teeaching myself to use it..

One question though.. are all the hp's treated as a non group item?

Glad you like the plugin.

I have thought about the .mat file creation at same time as Level 0 model export. Will have to work out details.

I would suggest that all hardpoints are listed after the model mesh groups.
I have not tried mixing up hp's and model meshes, will have to test and see what happens.

some time ago I discvered that it was better to group the model into as few groups as possible and I now adopt the following:

1 Rationalise the groups into as few as possible.. ie 1.mat per group
2. Name the first group after the ship and make this the biggest group
3. List the hardpoints last..

This gives a "cleaner" model with (usually) less mat problems

i have encountered a problem with your exporter.

I have re-edited my Ship, and used your exporter, as i group them end exported it to fl, when i launch fl and opened my savefile with that ship, i will only see my wings parked at the cityscape. Now when i launch to space, i only see the ship's hull, no wings and tailpipe whatsoever.

Now here's what i did prior to exporting.

I make sure all my model groups are first.

FBT_Elite01_Hull
FBT_Elite01_cunnard
FBT_Elite01_Cannopy
FBT_Elite01_star_wing
FBT_Elite01_port_wing
FBT_Elite01_engine01

and the rest of the hardpoints follows inluding the DpEngine01, DpDamStarwing and DpDamPortwing.

now when i use a single group, it is there you can see everything. Now what do you think has happened.

have you imported fix data from an existing model with the origin of each
part set to 0.0,0.0,0.0, then added the "object name" from the borrowed data to the Cmpnd->Part_xxx_lod1->Object name node?

The main ship part uses the object name of "Root", which does not need altering.

see the readme file from the download for details of a tutorial on ships with destructable parts i used to help with the exporter coding.

I'm at work at the moment and don't have access to the files.

I will post better details tonight if i get time.

A ship with multiple components will need the Fix data from an existing ship
importing into the Cmpnd->Cons->Fix node with the Origin x, y & z values changed to 0.00000 or 0.000001. The tutorial i refered to previously is called
"Ships/Weapons w/multiple components" by redeye. See step 2 for details on how to change the origin values using a hex editor. The tutorial was last edited in July last year so you may have to do a search.

The text in each Cmpnd->Part_xxx_lod1->Object name node will need changing to match a name in the fix data. The matching .sur file will also need copying and renaming as described in the tutorial.

That should make the whole ship appear in the game.

I've manged to download the mat & cmp exporters. Don't know why it isn't working for you.

I don't have a website, but if you send an email to [email protected] with Freelancer in the subject line and which file is required (or both) in the message, i will reply with the required zip file(s) attached.

Hi all,
I have got the .cmp exporter and it pissin me right off. the thing just won't work. i don't know what the problem is. It refused to work at first, then it worked, now it doesn't. It might be something to do with the large number of groups in my model but even when I reduce that it won't work.

HELP ME PLEASE!!!
