.fl editing

I know there's loads of threads on this, but I still need to ask; how do you edit the .fl saved files? I've tried with FLS1 and flcodec tools, but they both refuse to work for me - FLS1 switches of as soon as it starts, and when I use lcc-win32 to compile flcodec, it says there's an error in line 198 or something.
A little help please?

Put FLS1 in the saved game directory, and load a command prompt pointing to that directory. Then, type "FLS1 /newfile autosave.fl" (without the quotes) and press enter, and tell me what error message (if any) is shown.

flcodecs you need to frit make a short cut to it then right click on the shortcut you made then click properties then go to target and write in" -d <in>.fl <out>.txt"
with the space in the beginning just replace <in> with the name of the save you want to decode and <out> with the name of the text file you want the save to decode to.
that should get that one going
edit i forgot to tell you that for decodeing only to encode change -d in -e and switch .fl with .txt and you should have something like this
" -e <in>.txt <out>.fl"
