Starlancer

I would have put this in the Starlancer forum, but since those are rather dead, no one would have noticed! With the posting of the new starlancer-related poll by Boscoe, I decided to have a look into the 'past' of TLR. I downloaded the Starlancer trial version, and was pleasently surprised, and actually impressed by it, given its age. The graphics were acceptable, and the use of joystick (and correctly scaled capital ships) was a refreshing change from Freelancer. This old game has many features I had hoped Freelancer would have. I think I'll be after the $1.45 US copy that Amazon has for sale very soon :-)

i bought starlancer at a store for $2

I tried it ages ago. It uses the same conrols as X2.
X2 being the game I bought full price and never played due to ********* controls.

Freelancer was a step forward beyond description. A PC game that can actually be played with a mouse and keyboard.

At first I was worried aobut the mouse control scheme but once I palyed the demo I thought this is awesome. So I bought it. I hope more space games do the same. I think I can PWN someone using a joystick versus mouse.

I installed the trial StarLancer but since it doesn't come with any instructions I can't fly the ship! "Same controls as X2" doesn't help me, because I don't have X2. Punching keys at random, my ship just spun around in space while the wingmen made sarcastic comments.

Are there flight control instructions posted anywhere?

Sorry guys, but personal issues in my life have kept me away from my newly active SL board. I'll be back on this question in the next day or two. Thanks for your patience.

@Wash

Have you tried redefining the keys? I believe in the options menu you can change the controls (or at least I hope you can, I was playing the demo for a while using a WASD setup with space for the main guns).

for many flight sims, as well as BF1942 and BFV's planes, i found GTA's controls the easiest, and i changed Starlancer and almost all the other games to be like it.

W - accelerate
S - decellerate
D - roll right
A - roll left
numpad 9 - pitch down
numpad 6 - pitch up
numpad 4 - yaw left
numpad 5 - yaw right
space - function 1
q - function 2
e - function 3
left shift - function 4

When I first recieved StarLancer (which was it a computer class doorprize ) I was so eager to play it. When I saw the controls on the manual, I freaked out. I spent my holiday almost flat out mastering them.

Two Years Later

Moved to a new house. I have to reinstall the game again. But StarLancer without two years will cause a playing problem for a while. I remember the basic controls, but Closest Enemy, Closest Ally, Radar Range, and the rest of it were beyond me. I took two days, and I got it. YES!
