Force Feedback DELAYS

Hi there, I've been playing StarLancer for a long time now and I bought a microsoft sidewinder force feedback 2 (v2.0). Everything works fine except the force feedback... let's say I smash into an asteroid, I will get some feedback about 3 seconds later.... which is realy annoying.

Here are my specs:
Win2k
P4 2.8 Ghz
1 gig ram dual
Ati Radeon 9800 pro 256mb
160 gig HD (raid)
p4p800e-deluxe MB

Any help appreciated, thx

Fraid I cannot help, as I have never used a joystick........

However, these forums are very 'quiet', so it may take some time to get an answer....if any. If you like, I can move this to another forum - like Off topic, and see if you get any help there? Up to you of course

Of course I'd like that, I understand it's a "quiet" forums since it's an old game. Same scenario when I had trouble with other old space sims. Just tell me where is that forum you think I should post and I'll go there. Thx.

I get this with a force feedback 2 about 3 seconds delay in the force feedback. looking around in the starlancer folder there are some dlls which have vfx in the name these were apparently used on early force feedback games and its possible they dont work on modern sticks / with modern drivers / with new OS.

edit: i removed vfx.dll and didnt get any errors and force feedback still appears to work so it dosent look like thats the problem

I don't know if you can adjust the Sensitivity of the Joystick (Either in the Windows Control Panel or in the in-game settings) but it's possible one of those two settings may be able to solve your problem.

Other then that I think the problem has been nailed on the head - Starlancer IS an old game that doesn't necessarily have the capability to match up with modern joysticks and modern force-feedback capabilites.

FYI: I wouldn't delete any files out of your Starlance directory, that's just going to lead to more trouble down the road.

thats why i backed up the whole folder and i only usually rename files .

Right i think ive found a fix (it only took me since the last post to find ¬-¬

simply right click > properties on a shortcut to starlancer.exe and set the compatability mode to win 98/me (its under the compatability tab)

i have to say thats the 1st time compatability modes ever worked for anything which is probably why it took me so damn long to work it out.

the only other thing ive done that i havent reversed is install the official software for the joystick but i dont think this was a necessary part.

Interesting, first time I've heard of this one. I also have a MS FF2 and never had this issue. Question; do you have the USB version or the gameport version?

usb here

I have USB too, don't recall this being an issue, but since it was 5 years ago, maybe there was. Give me a little time, I'll see if I can still get Paul at Warthog after this much time to get an answer. No promises, but I'll give it a shot.
