Just got Starlancer....bit of a problem

I had Starlancer for Dreamcast, loved the game to death up until I sold my Dreamcast and Starlancer. Well, my sister got me the game as a late Christmas present (I asked her for it as I'd seen it at the EB in San Angelo TX) Anyway, I just installed the game and it won't run. I hit the exe file and my cursor shows working in background....I try Win98 Compatibility mode....Now I get an error to send a report to Microsoft. Game still won't load up AT ALL. I've tried full install, normal install, and reinstalling the game to each of my 3 Hard Disks in my computer. BUBKIS! Any of you guys have this problem and know how to fix. I REALLY don't want to have to re-install Windows as I'll need to do it again in a few weeks when I get a new Intel Pentium 4 setup. Here's my specs

Athlon XP 1800+
512 Mb DDR
180 total Gb of HDD
Radeon 9600 XT
On board C-Media sound (I Have an audigy I can use, but I don't have my disks to enable 5.1 audio yet)
Windows XP Professional with SP1 I beleive....Not too sure on that tho

Thanks for any assistance you gents can offer.

You might as well let it collect dust on your shelf and wait for a few eeks for that P4. Patience is a virtue my friend . If I were you, in future stay well away from XP. Get WIndows 98 Second Edition if possible, as all games are specifically designed to work with this Operating System, because it's the most popular. I have never, to this day, ever seen a game that is uncompatible with Windows 98, unless it was made prior to 1998, lol. Enjoy pal, and remember, XP stands for Xtreme Phuckup

Not exactly sure what to tell you but I ran Starlancer in WinXP without problems once I turned off 3d sound. Not sure if that will help, but see if you can get to some menu to shut off 3d sound effects. I guess you can also try the compatibility settings that come with win XP to set it to win 98 mode but I never had to do that. Out of curiosity, why do you need disks to get 5.1 sound working? Won't the drivers that can be downloaded from creative's web site work? I've never tried 5.1 sound but was thinking about getting some new speakers, so that piqued my curiosity.

Yeah, normally, disabling EAX should work (from what I've heard) with Win XP. However, as I can understand, it doesn't load at all. Now, that's a bit of a problem. Is this the only game that doesn't work. You might want to try othres and see if it's the problem with your windows or with the CD. BTW, maybe there's sth on the CD itself that prevents it from loading? Scratches, dirt, anything? Dunno really, there are gys who are experts in this field, maybe they'll help?

It's usually the 3D sound. Turn it off and everything works fine. If not, then I guess you'll have to wait to re-install Windaz Ecks Pee.

Unfortunately the game won't load to where I can disable EAX. It won't start up at all. I installed Starlancer on my Inspiron 8200 notebook runnin WinXP Home and SP1 (no compatibility mode either) and the game runs fine, aside from the crap-tastic load speed of the CD-ROM. I'll just wait for the P4 stuff and play on the notebook, thank GOD my Joystick is USB.

And Audigy bare drivers only support Stereo. not 5.1. I do beleive it's just my Windows Install that's messed up, this machine will be a completely different computer when I get my P4 stuff as I'm also getting new Hard Disks for it.

For anyone else whom encountered this exact same problem (I did), I found a solution...

... Use a No-CD crack. I slapped one on mine and now it works. You can get one at www.megagames.com

NOW the only problem I'm having is the "No Sessions found" BS in multiplayer mode. I've been trying to play with my friend, but we cannot detect either person's IP. We've tried direct, GameSpy and the Zone, alike; nothing. And it's not a firewall issue; I can host any other game just fine.

Any ideas on that one... ?

I can play T.A, Diablo, European Air War etc without disabling my firewall (Norton) BUT I have to disable it to play MP Starlancer.

@MannPower
Prolly has to do with the CD-crack...

Check your version of DirectX. Make sure that you have DX9.0b running, as it is the latest version. SL works perfectly for me on Windows XP, so I doubt that the OS is your problem.
