Just to direct this thread back onto the right path...
There is a lot of misleading information in the forum on this topic. Uncompressed wav files work fine, but they are way too big.
I wasted 2 days finding out what was bad info, so don't waste your time too.
NCH's Switch conversions seem to work (I only tried 3-4 files) but it lies about sample rates, sets the wrong sample rate and makes files twice the size they need to be.
Here's the easiest way, it takes less than a minute per file to compress and convert new music for Freelancer, and you need only Sound Recorder, which is already in your Windows installation for every language:-Easy Reliable Way to make New Music Files

Agreed with above....there is a much better way to encode the audio (using Mpeg3 within the WAV container).
My post also allows you to encode higher than the default 56kbit/s of Sound Recorder
