I need to know: exactly how do you extract the .ini files? I have downloaded a few Bini editors and all are thoroughly useless. The only one with a Windows interface gives me error messages (I looked this up in the author's log and the solution is to download BINI LITE, which I can't get because of a server error). I need definite, VERY clear instructions for how to do this. I DON'T HAVE A CLUE.

If anyone requires new players to their server to start out in a custom ship configuration, let me know and I'll create the mod for it. Please keep in mind, my mods only work for MP.

That's not really on topic with this tutorial, but if you do a search for "unlock" and "jump hole" in the general editing forum, you're bound to find something that will help.

You seem to have a good understanding of it all. Check with shiparch.ini to make sure the class restrictions are correct. It's possible to go over the class restriction on character creation, but once you try to undock from a base or planet, the 1.1 server patch will kick the player for cheating. The best way is to test it out yourself if you're ever in doubt, before commiting it to your server.

Sounds like you wish to add weapons that go beyond class restrictions of the ship you're using. Instead of using:

equip = li_gun01_mark03, HpWeapon02

try using:

cargo = li_gun01_mark03, HpWeapon02

and you should be fine.

I tried it out by changing the MPstart file and then booted the server up again only to find out that no-one could create new characters anymore,

I don't want to exeed specs, I want to add some medium weps to match the ship.

The Dagger has four hardpoints and a turret, so I wanted to put in four guns, haven't tried that yet though.

Did you make sure that [Player is at the top of the file? And there's supposed to be a closing bracket there, but these forums have picky rules about it and remove it. Just make sure you have the word Player at the top of your file surrounded by the [ brackets. If you'll go back to my first few posts, I never said to copy over everything, just everything below [Player . Just place it in the top of your file and you should have it working.

I tested out your mod and it works well. too well. Leaving Manhattan is suicide when you're an outcast. I suggest maybe having the player start from buffalo base in the badlands. That would be li01_12_base .

What server will this be on anyway?

the [player is on top since I just pasted this from word to replace everything below the [player (including the cluosure, but it won't display on TLR)

What happens is that when I put this up on the server it made new characters not showing up on the Character Select screen when you enter a server, they do exist in the server control and IFSO but cannot be selected or deleted. If I delete the Character, the name is locked and unusable

I't will be running together with the Boston Mod on the "N.O.V.A.E.F. Server" which is the server i'm running for my clan, thought about changing the starter location to Alcatrez (li02_06_base), but that would mean editing the jumpholes etc. aswell I guess and i didn't want to get into that yet, but Rochester (li01_13_base) would be a nice place to start out I guess. Not to easy not too hard. I think Buffalo would make a start too easy, it needs a challenge when starting since you don't have to bother getting rid of the Starflier and upgrade.

So it might be possible that this is conflilcting with the mod we are running, i'll ask Earendil to view this topic aswell.

Thanks for the input so far, really like editing this, might try out some more and test them out.

Okay, I've had similar problems with a corrupted character preventing me from making more or getting rid of what's already created. e-mail me the mod and I'll see what I can do. If you use any mod that alters mpnewcharacter.fl then it could be corrupting new characters.
