I need some help skinning my ship...

I've finished the modelling stage, now I need to skin it...and herein lies the problem -_- I don't know how. I don't have a UV editing program that works (I was reading a tutorial at one point that said I needed unwrap3d, which doesn't want to load on my pc)...But I would appreciate some help from people who've done this before (:

Oh yeah, it's done in Milkshape 3d V1.6.6a, and I guess I didn't make all the polygons face outward...THAT'LL take some time to fix, unless there's a tool (Is there?).

with "skin" do you mean a texture? when yes then I wonder why you need any special programs as I can "skin" my models in milkshape, you just need a "paint" programm that can handle tga files

errmmmm....I don't have photoshop (I don't want to thieve anything), but I do have mspaint. That probably won't do it

I have some panel type TGAs if your interested. Its pretty basic compared to the more advanced textures but its good enough if you want that machined look. Email me if your interested.

Thanks, but now that I've read up a bit, I think I need (well, want badly ( a uv map editor...and the ship I made has about half of the faces facing the wrong way Didn't know I had to connect them in a certain direction.

Milkshape can handle the "UV mapping" just fine, the call it the Texture Coordinate Editor, you'll find that under the view menu. You just have to be patient when maping the texture in Milkshape to make sure your finished texture doesn't get stretched and distorted.

The help files in Milkshape ahve a very good, albiet very simple, tutorial on how to do it. The internet has literally thousands of websites with tutorials on skinning 3d objects. There is a not-so-expensive program out there that can do everything Photoshop can, including using many Photoshop plug-ins, go to http://www.jasc.com to learn more about Paint Shop Pro and download a trial version.

Milkshape: $25
Paint Shop Pro: $99
Seeing your own creation in the game: Priceless

giskard's "b5cargo" model with my new, very non-babylon 5 texture, pardon the jpg artifacts and the wierd effect on the cargo pods caused by the mip maps.
