Galapagus Mod is in progress, but need help

Hey guys... I am planning to make my own mod The Galapagus mod which will hopefully include loads of new systems with ships like the Slave1 and A-wing, the ships from Hostile universe (The latest version v5 is great!! thanks ) and others... I am using Sshan's 2D system editor to make the systems, but I have no clue how to make it so that the ships are in the systems!!

Could someone help me pleaz? Its a great mod!! Serious. I'm no good at programming, but someone could help me. Someone??

Sounds like your aiming too high.

I gave your permission to use my ships and asked you email me so i can keep you informed of updates in the other thread. I suggest you start by getting a ship to appear on the buyers list of an established station and fire off any questions you have to me at that address.

Then try and get the AI to fly them.

By which time your understanding of the inis will be good enough to tackle new systems.

Making mods is a very satisfying experience. If you really want to make one. I'll give you any help i can via email or in forums. Just nudge me if i appear absent. Im probably knee deep in some ini file someplace trying to the boil and egg missions working lol

The thing worth remembering is that right now most mods have most of the released ships so they are all almost identical. So you have to make yours something special. Give it an angle players can latch on to as well as ships and work towards that goal. Most of all, protect your mods over all look and feel because there are some shadey gits in here releasing copies of existing mods as they own.

The ships are not important, nor are unrealised ideas. Only X,Y,Z stuff that actually appears in your mod matters such as the Giant alien spacestaion that offers free sex with trible breasted women to passing pilots. Should somebody else suddenly have such an item after you release yours, kick off. I my mind that just crossed the line and are invading your mods personal space. Let them use their own imagination and think up their own idea for a floating brothel. ))

That way it will not be the same as yours because its not a cut and paste of yours. If you get my meaning

You tell em Giskard. I'm tired of seeing all these copycats rip stuff and try and create a mod without even learning how to do it the hard way.

Modding is fun and everybody has to start somewhere

Usually a good idea is the best start because it gives focus to a mod and makes it stand out above the right.

Hello Kendo.

The most important thing to be willing to do when making a mod is to be willing to learn new tricks. I have made several mods and each time I've had to learn new stuff to do so. It means putting in hours of research and watching your Freelancer install crash out thousands of times a day.

It is important to make backups and list the files you modify with freelancer so when somewhere works, you have copies of the working mod. FL can get very complex very quickly.

To make a mod and to get help you need to be able to ask specific questions. So first off you need to decide exactly what you want to do. Then find a tutorial and get started. At which point you should have a few questions you need answers too. Each question that gets answered is another trick youve learnt.

This is the usual way things work.

Now youve said you wanted to add ships, so lets start there.

You need to edit the following files.

Freelancer\DATA\SHIPS\Shiparch.ini = the ships main configuration file.
Freelancer\DATA\EQUIPMENT\goods.ini = addons the ship should automatically get, eg engines.
Freelancer\DATA\EQUIPMENT\market_ships.ini = where the ship is sold.

Now your going to have 1 question you need an answer to right away. In market_ships.ini, how do i get my ship to show up ?

This is how.

This ship is for sale
marketgood = rsstarfury_package, 1, -1, 1, 1, 0, 1, 1

This ship is not for sale.
marketgood = rsstarfury_package, 1, -1, 0, 0, 1, 1, 1

By changing the numbers you enable a ship or disable a ship.

Also each base can only sell 3 ships and bases that already sell 3 ships must have 1 of the existing ships disabled so it is not for sale at that base.

You will also need a list of bases and their coded so you know where your adding your ship so you can test it.

Here is a list of bases to get your started.

I'll leave you to figure out the shiparch.ini and the goods.ini. Those two require some research but i have answered the questions new mod makers usually ask early on in this emial.

The process of adding a ship is simply.

First make the ship.
Create the shiparch.ini entry
Make the goods.ini entry.
Add it to base to be sold.

Please note that all pilotable ships in the shiparch.ini contain extra lines that enable the player to fly them. AI ships dont require those lines and ignore them if they find them. So studdy the differences between nopilotable ships and pilotable ones and you will learn a lot.

Hey, thanks Giskard.

I've sent you 2 e-mails. 1 should have v1 of the Galapagus mod (of course without ships, you know why) and a second with the e-mail problem. I'm trying to get it fixed fast!!!!
