Possible workaround for memory leak

Here SysOps can list their MultiPlayer server info and users can send feedback to their SysOps. Or just talk about the MultiPlayer servers they play on. This is not about MultiPlayer in general - please use the MultiPlayer Forum for that!

Possible workaround for memory leak

Like many other admins out there, I'm getting sick of my server crashing every 16-20 hours depending on the current load.

Out of curiosity, I downloaded and installed a freeware memory manager to free up memory which wasn't being released properly.

Prior to doing this, I watched memory usage for flserver.exe within the task manager and saw it grow steadily, eventually causing it to crash at, or around, 160MB.

After installing RAMpage (http://www.jfitz.com/software/RAMpage/), memory usage would climb up to ~100MB before dropping back down to ~60MB or so as RAMpage flushed the memory. It seems to have made my machine more stable. I only installed RAMpage yesterday, so haven't had a chance to make any long-term observations.

Hope this helps other admins out there.

I tell ya... that Harv. What a maroon.

The server stayed up for 32 straight hours after installing RAMpage. Now it crashes regularly around the 16-20 hour mark.

A memory manager might not be a bad idea in general, but unfortunately it doesn't help in our case.

Sorry if I gave anyone false hopes.

I also installed RAMpage, with no luck, unfortunately.

Last night my server crashed after only 2 hours of uptime Do you use any sort of server auto-restart utilities? Can you elaborate if you do?

I am wondering what OS U are using that u need a memory manager ??
I run the server in win2k and don't need one
Just keep in mind that Win98 doesn't Utilize memory over 96Mb so in that case a memory manager might be a help
Some of them u can set up to check your memory at specific times
Server OS like WinNt Win2k and WinXp shouldn't have those problems

I'm running Win2k. Yeah I know it doesnt really need a memory manager, I was grasping at straws trying to get the server to be more stable...

I guess I'll stick with manually restarting it untill the patch gets here.
