XP Version

Can someone running Windows XP Home, who can play in MP without issues post which version/patch number they are on?

MP Has never worked for me since installing the game and truth be told I'm hoping to avoid experimenting as much as possible.

Thanks

i run pro with sp1 installed and have had no problems with muliplayer. the problem shouldn't be with the fact you have home since pro and home are almost the exact same with a few minor exceptions (logging into windows domain, better admin systems for services, etc.)

Ok SP1, any hot patches I need to count up?

Thanks Again

i have all the critical updates installed. they are mainly security .

what is the exact problem your having?

Well I click multiplayer...

I get the LAN or INTERNET choice...

If I click on either one I get booted to the desktop, no error message etc.

List of things I've tried.

Clean Boot
Uninstall Reinstall
Turned down Hardware acceleration
Updated Sound and Video drivers
Disabled AGP Texturing

Most of these in varying combinations and alone.

I can play things like Mechwarrior Mercs, EQ, and Starfleet Command online no problem and I'ver covered all the firewall/port issues in the readme files and the forums.

I'm at a loss, I'm really confused as to why I don't even get that really annoying 'send error report to Microsoft' message when it happens like I do for everything else.

XP, Directx 9, no service packs, no hotfixes, MP and SP work fine.

Haven't actually played in a MP game, but I did start a server myself and hop on it and it worked fine:

WinXP Pro, SP1, ALL updates available from Windows Update (critical as well as all the others, including drivers), DirectX 9, Windows Media Player 9 (I think that's the version - the newest one), etc.
