Multiplayer doesn''t work

When I go to multiplayer and choose "Internet" it says "Connecting to Global server." I wait for about 5 minutes but it never connects! So far I have not been able to experience multiplayer because of this. Anyone know how to get it to work?

Unfortunately you have been having that problem for quite some time.. time to take it back and get a refund buddy.

I like it how people post these problems but fail to read the readme files about Firewalls and Routers.

I also have the same problem, I also do not have a router and all firewalls are turned off.

I Had the same problem . I read all documentation on setting up Firewalls and anything I could find about linksys routers. I have a linksys router befw11s4 it is a Wireless router with a 4 port switch This is the V1 there is a a V2 model .

No matter what I tried the game would Freeze when I clicked on Internet. I tried putting my machine as the DMZ that didn't help Then I tried forwarding ports 2100 to 2500 to that machine still didn't help.

The code version I was running was 1.44.z released 12/3/02 so I thought I was uptodate becausse the website says the release date is 12/3/02. Turns out I was wrong there was a second update in DEC that Fixed a UPNP issue the version is 1.44.2z issued on 12/13/03 . Once I updated the Firmware to this version everything starting working like it should.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling. I had problems similar to this, and that worked for me.

Oh, and another thing, when it asks if you want to install directX 9, say yes, even if you already have it. I previously had 9x, but I figuered what the hell. So when I reinstalled Freelancer and clicked yes to installing 9X, it worked. So might as well give it a shot.

Check you DirectX connection...run the directX diagnositics that are in the directX directory...click on the network tab...for some reason all mine were knackered....so I re-installed (from FL CD) and hurrah it all works....now if I could stop the constant dropouts

I've been having no luck getting into a Multiplayer game, but I think I have isolated the problem to DX9 and DirectPlay. I suspect something is wrong with my DirectPlay installation, as I cannot run a DirectPlay test in DXDiag without it freezing up on me.

I've tried deinstalling DX9 with a tool I found on the web, but that didn't seem to work very well. I've tried reinstalling DX9 from various CD's as well as reinstalling Freelancer several times.

I've about had it with this game and Microsoft's craptastic DX. Someone wake me up when they fix this bug or figure out a way to properly clear out and reinstall DX9.

I solved my MP connection problem. The hard way.

I reinstalled Windows XP from scratch, and Freelancer was the first thing installed after running all the updates and patches. Worked like a charm. Great going Microsoft.
