Crash Tip (Was: My First Crash)
Hey all,
Well, after playing quite a bit (both the demo and now some time in the full), I finally had my first crash (just a silent/errorless crash to the desktop). It happened shortly after using my first jump gate (though not immediately after) to a system when I went to scan a ship. One thing I will say - I was just messing around in the game - not seriously playing it (had a few minutes to kill), and because of that I had MSN Explorer, AOL Instant Messenger, etc. open in the background. The computer also had been up for a while without a reboot. Whether that had anything to do with it I don't know. It did make me think of something rather obvious though (considering I haven't had ANY crashes prior to this...whether I will in the future has yet to be seen):
- Always, when you're going to seriously play the game, reboot the system and close everything you don't need. Seems common sense, but it really does improve game performance and stability in most games.
Update: Just thought I'd say I replayed this section of the game by the above method (rebooting clean) and have had no problems whatsoever with crashes since. This probably isn't going to help all of you, but if you haven't tried a clean reboot before each play of the game and are having crash issues, give it a go - just may help you.
