Direct IP

I too suffer from the never connecting Global Server problem.

Now I know its not my Router as my other PC works fine. Ive reinstalled 3 times and dropped the other PC from the LAN to see if it was blocking a port or whatever all to no effect.

I understand it is possible to connect to a server if you know the ip ?

Where do I specify this and could someone give me the syntax that works for a regular sever so I know its not my typing/attempt to connect thats naffed.

Much appreciated.

Use the fldirectip.hta file in the Exe folder.

I got it working.

Run the DirectX diagnostics in your DirectX directory (in program files most probably).

On the Network Tab all my Direct Play entries were broken (errored)

I re-installed directX (from the Freelancer CD) and hurrah it all works.

I wish it was so simple for me... i have done everything suggested and nothing seems to work. I dont run a firewall or router, re-installed dx9, updated drivers, updated bios... and lots of other things.

I dont think its a problem with my computers setup at this point... I would tend to think its more a problem with the server and the load it is having to deal with because this game is quite popular.

I can get on sometimes so i wont complain anymore.. but i do hope they fix it.

Also, a fix for the antialiasing "crash on exiting game" would be cool... it looks even better with Quincunx enabled and no slow down at all that I could notice.

Storm trust me it is a problem with your Dx9

I have pretty much the same situation as you... and I have tried reinstalling Dx9 ... but I still can't connect to global server.

However, if you run dxdiag (start>run>dxdiag) and look under network tab i am almost positive you will see that there are errors.

I have heard that reinstalling windows and then installing dx9 will fix, but I'm not sure. Those lucky people that were able to simply reinstall dx9 to fix it make me jealous.

To play C&C Generals I had to uninstall DX9 in which case it rolled me back to 8.1 and then install 9 again with the webinstaller from Microsoft. You all could try that for this and I hope it rids you of all your problems.. Let me find the uninstaller I used.

You can find the DX9 uninstaller there BUT read the readme and I suggest backing up your **** before trying this. I hope this helps you all out.
