new find on the "crashes when i join" issue

It seems that a reasonable number of people like me are suffering from this problem. You're abole to connect to the Global Server and retrieve the list of hosts, but once you attempt to connect to a host, the game minimizes to the desktop and fails to respond. Something I've noticed, every time I have to close Freelancer like this through taskmgr.exe, dxdiag.exe is listed right below the freelancer executable. Has anyone else noticed this? Any particular reason why this may be happening? Would this be a clue for someone searching for a solution?

MicroSoft doing. Every time FL crashes (for whatever reason) dxdiag is being run in the background. (it collects data if in case you wanna sent report)

Doh. Thought we were on to something here, that's probably it though.

When I've rebooted after a hardlock in Freelancer, if I start DXDiag I invariably get a message about 'we detected a problem in ...' insert DirectPLay, Direct3d, DirectSound... sometimes a message for all 3 at once.

Hrm, I've never tried killing the process. I just let it go until it pops up the error report thing.

Just a thought.. You're running DX9 correct? And killing the bug report won't really help, the game is already dead...

yes dx9 is installed, and reinstalled, and reinstalled
