Mouse Wheel cannot be assigned :-(

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Mouse Wheel cannot be assigned :-(

I don't believe it... every, I mean, every game I own either pre-assigns the mousewheel or allows you to assign it.

That is, except for Freelancer , which doesn't seem to recognize the mouse wheel on my... M I C R O S O F T mouse!!!

Anyone else having this problem...?

btw, how old is this forum SW? No search, no html, no nothing

Haven't tried it myself for my setup (logitech optical mouse) but I read that installing the mouse software instead of default drivers allows use of the wheel. I had this problem with MoH:AA and installing logitech software allowed wheel and button 4 assignment (then I got XP and all was well w/o software?). Just a small shot to try if haven't already (of course this is assuming you don't have software installed).

I havn't tried assigning the wheel, but i have logitech duel optical and i assigned mouse 4 and mouse 3...mouse 4 is another key where your thumb is positioned and mouse 3 is when you press the wheel mouse. I use the wheel mouse for what it was ment to be, speed control.

All that using the default XP drivers for the mouse.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the darkness at Tan Hauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time like tears in rain. Time to die.

How did you assign wheel? I try and it won't take w/o use of logitech mouseware.

I havn't assigned the wheel, only the wheel "button". when you press the wheel it registeres as mouse3.

As for the wheel itself, you have to have the logitech software installed for it to be programed.

that's odd.. i havn't done anything to assign the mouse wheel, but it controlls my throttle

I don't find a need for the rolling wheel, though I do have the wheel button allocated to firing torpedoes. All you'd really feesably want to use it for is speeding up and slowing down, but my left hand can handle that.
