Two players on same router on same server?

All right, so my roommate and I have been waiting to play a Privateer-style game multiplayer for a long time, and while we can fly together if one of us sets up a LAN server, we can't join up on any internet server (though both of us can be on different servers simultaneously). We've had this problem on a few other games before, but not all (for instance, we can join up just fine on an America's Army server).

Anybody know what's going on here? Is this a technical issue with the router or something on our side, or is this because the server software won't allow multiple connections from the same household...?

I believe it's this one... Someone mentioned this before and had the same problem.

Yea it's just like Half-Life was the same way.. if any of you remember that game... lol
