Can''t log on to multiplayer servers

I can run the game fine in Single player, but whenever I try to log on to a multiplayer game (before the game actually loads) I crash to the desktop. I've tried reinstalling directx, it didn't help at all.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

Just to add my voice, I'm having the same problem. The game crashes to the desktip immediately after selecting 'LAN' or 'Internet', Single player game works fine and hasn't crashed yet.

There are a few threads discussing this, though no one has found a solution yet. The most detailed seems to be here:

If it's possible, could we keep all posts about this in one thread? If for no other reason than maybe someone will notice that the thread is huge and do something about the problem. (Wishful thinking, I know..)

Maybe you guys should compare Video and Soundcard hardware and drivers.

We've been doing just that in the thread I URL'd here. Everyone having the problem has a Geforce card of some kind, but I have friends with Geforce cards that it runs fine for. Everyone also has a SB card of some kind, but I have friends with SB cards that it runs fine for.

I was wondering if maybe it was some kind of conflict between Geforce & SB, but I uninstalled the drivers, disabled the card in bios (mine's onboard), and it still happened. I just wish I could bribe a Dev into reading that thread, cause atm I don't know if they're even aware of the problem. I'd be happy to lend my troubleshooting skills to The Cause. I /really/ want to play this game MP.
