The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

I can''t install the Freelancer Trial

Hi!

I downloaded the Trial from the official Micro$oft server,
then I have this Freelancer_Trial.exe file.
Then I execute it, it extracts some awful big files,
then this Freelancer Setup thingy startes.
No matter which method of installing (Express, Manual)
I choose, it stops at "Creating Game Folders". It just doesn't do
anymore for hours! I re-downloaded the file, didn't help any.
What am I doing wrong?

Do you have a virus scanner running? You might try to disable it while you install (only temporarily). Some virus scanners can interfere with setup. I also once had a strange situation where a game only installed in safe mode, so if all else fails, try rebooting and installing it in safe mode. (Then go back to normal to play.) Both may be longshots, but they're worth a try.

Nope, don't have a scanner or anything
Well, I'll try via Safe Mode, thanks for the tip and cross your fingers that it'll work for me

Well, didn't work in safe mode. I tried it at another computer, and there it worked perfectly. Now I'm currently pulling the files back on my computer in order to play it there

Sorry it didn't work for you. Hmmm...that's really odd. I hope it works pulling the files back to your computer, but the registry settings might be a problem. (What OS are we talking about here?)

Also, some info. about the computer might be helpful too. Make sure you have the latest drivers as well. Did a quick search and saw something about InstallShield for programs sometimes hanging on VIA based motherboards and a software upgrade to correct the issue.

It worked, I also imported the (Windows XP) registry settings from both current user and local machines, and now I can play the game on my computer. Well, the trial of the game ;-)

thx for your help, pHew
