Semi-random split-second pauses?

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Semi-random split-second pauses?

Whenever I'm flying, I'll notice very quick pauses, mainly when people are talking. It's not big enough to affect dog-fighting or be real annoying, but it still is noticeable. It's almost as if its loading the sounds from disk, the pause is so quick. I have 512mb RAM, so it's not my swap file I also have WinXP, a GF4 Ti 4400, and an Audigy 1 using Audigy 2 drivers (Creative has unofficially stopped making Audigy 1 drivers, for no reason)

I still get that too. Try turning off all unneeded backgrond applications including wallpaper and see if that helps. If not, trim down the resolution and/or details a bit within game. You might even consider upping the refresh rate of your monitor, but do so with extreme caution.

I get about 100fps, and run it at 1024x768x32 @100hz. As far as background applications, I just have 2 tray programs (Messenger and Norton), and have 300+mb of real RAM free.

Try turning down the refresh rate maybe that would help.

Refresh rate wouldn't cause this problem, I'm 99.9% sure

I've had this problem on my Athlon XP, Win2k Pro, GF4 Ti4400 system for the last several months in all 3D games. I have not been able to fix it, only minimize it.

You might try de-fragging your drive... it probably is loading sounds from the hard-disk... if you installed the game on a fragmented drive it may be seeking around to load the files.
