error message with setup.exe

hi there

i have been trying to install the demo that i downloaded from micro$oft. when the installer unzips all the files into a temp directory for installation i get the following error message

setup was unable to find (or could not read) the language specific setup resource dll, unable to continue. please reboot and try again.

i have xp pro installed and have downloaded and installed the latest version of direct x. running a athlon xp2100 on abit kx333 board with ti4600 video, 1gig ram and 2x80gig hd.

anyone any ideas what is the problem

Have you tried redownlaoding the file? Mebbe something screwed up during the download.

yes m8 i have downloaded twice both times from micro$oft. even used the link that these pages use i.e top right hand corner link.

still baffled and gettin weel pi$$ed off now coz i really would like to play the demo b4 i shell out my money for the full game.

i hate to do it but i think i am gonna have to go to microShaft technical

Please tell me if you find the soultion, I'm trying to reinstall the demo and have tried everything I could think of but I am getting the same error you are. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how you resolve it if you do.

Ok nevermind I saw your reply in the other thread about burning the installation files on a CD then running it from there. That worked for me also. That makes me really mad though, I spend a fortune for XP Pro and then it can't even install one of Microsoft's own game demos without burning it on a CD first? Sheesh.

yeah, i was getting the same thing. oddly enough, the download from fileplanet worked fine.
