Quincunx AA problem

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Quincunx AA problem

I have a GF4 Ti 4200 128MB vidcard, and it's powerful enough that I wanted to turn on FSAA. I found the one that gave the best fps was quincunx method. However, a lot of the time, when I quit the game, it totally screws up my display with random pixels and distortions everywhere. I turned it off, but now I'm back to jaggies, does anyone know what I should do?

I've a 4400, and I'm running 2x AA and 2x Ani. I've also had no problems running 4x Ani. I've been constantly changing it back and forth since I've been one of the ones with the constant crashes for no known reason (think I solved it, needed a big PS).

Between 2x AA and Ani filtering, I bet it'll look fine. I did notice, in either 4xAA or 8X ani, that my text got blurry when I change directions. Also saw this same affect when running above 1024x768. Odd stuff there.

Tried running some of the newer set of drivers?

Post Tue Mar 04, 2003 10:12 am

Well I would bet it is drivers. I only have a gef3 ti 200 with the latest manufacturer drivers for it. I run in 1154x864 quincunx fsaa and 4 x anistrophic and the game runs beautifully. No crashes or odd distortions either.
Running windows 2k professional patched ot the hilt with dx9 and so on
My biggest issues were findong the right balance for mouse sensitivity for my optical mouse otherwise combat was a complete horror!!!!
Also in your dirextx properties under the advanced settings make sure table fog emulation is turned on and i have mine set to give the best image also

I've noticed on my vanilla GF3 that enabling FSAA at quincunx with 3x Ani made the high level textures on planets disappear!!!

I'm all patched up too, with the 41.09 Detonators and such, and I don't have any viruses (just checked) even though my screen resembled what a virus would do. I'll try 2xAA then and see if it's satisfactory.

@bargib

Thats weird. I have tried all sorts of settings up to 4x fsaa and 8x anistrophic but never at any setting did i ever lose any textures. The highest anistrophic and fsaa made the game jump in intense combat but that was all.
(comp upgrade coming real soon me thinks )

Quincunx FSAA and 4x anistrophic just seem to run real nice on mine.

@datadroid i take it all your detail levels are maxed etc. Did you check your fog table emulation in direct3d was enabled?

other than that take off fsaa and apply 2x anistrophic ot start then add fsaa in on the lowest and increse both til it goes wrong at least you'll know where the limits of your system are
Also just because they are the absolute latest detonators don't mean they are the best unfortunately. I don't use detonators I have an abit siluro gef3 and detonators wont work with it so i'm stuck on hte manufacturers drivers which seem pretty good so far for most everything

Is there a way to set AA levels in the game itself, as opposed to via the display properties in Windows? I have a Ti4600 running 41.09s.

I ask because for most games I dont want to run AA, but with Freelancer I can afford to easily. So, I'd rather set it in the game than globally.

Thanks
