Why can''t I see the cockpit?

Howdy,

I've got the Freelancer demo, awesome game but I can't see my cockpit. Changing the checkbox in the 'options' screen makes absolutely no difference. Any comments?

(Yes, I know how to change to the first person view using ctrl-V :p )

Strange. I've never heard of this problem. Try changing drivers for your Radeon card? I can see the cockpits just fine with my GF4 Ti4200.

Other guys with Radeon8500s don't seem to have a problem. Damn, this is bizarre.

Might be because I flashed the card's BIOS to a Radeon 9100... (the Radeon 9100 is actually an 8500 but with a newer BIOS).

Freelancer doesn't natively recognize the radeon 9100. I'm starting to think that might be the problem... Hmmm.

i guess you checked your PerfOptions.ini in your savegame dir that
cockpit = 1.00

There is no cockpit on the first ship you get. You can only see a tiny bit of it when making steep turns or accelerating.

Go buy the Rhino, I bet youll see the cockpit then.

Indeed, my cockpit problem doesn't exist. I'm an idiot, it turns out...
I saw screenshots of ships you can get later in the game, and it never occured that the cocpit of the first ship would be almost nonexistant.

I must admit one thing though Cleeve. You are brave to be flashing video card bios and with the incorrect bios.

Well, not that brave. The Radeon 9100 is simply a radeon 8500 chip with a newer BIOS.
Ati is still selling 8500 chips, but because they are a little faster than the new Radeon 9000s, they rebranded it a 9100.

Cockpit design varies from ship to ships

Try increase your gamma/contrast

Have you seen the your starflier cockpit from turret view
the "cockpit outlines" is at edges.

Rhino have more cockpit outlines.
