Then after ENDLESS searching I found a reply that suggested removing McNorton Antivirus program.

At first, I did not want to do this so I turned off the firewall and disabled everything. Freelancer still does not work online.

Out of desperation, I uninstalled McNorton. To my disbelief, it works.
