Success with QuickFix Patch!
I've been a fan of Freelancer since the beginning, but since the day I sold my Radeon 8500 Freelancer has never worked quite right - on my 6600 GT, it was crap, and on my 7900 GT it was still crap. I'd see a warning that my video card was unrecognized, and an annoying 1/2-second lag every time digital audio was played.
I tried all the tricks - disabling audio acceleration settings, fiddling with the config files, reducing my detail levels, but I guess I never got it quite right. The point is, the QuickFix patch DOES get it all right, all without any extra input from me.

I've NEVER been able to enjoy Freelancer in 1280x960 with 4xAA...until now. My hats off to the developers of the patch, great community effort.
NOTE: the QuickFix patch still has trouble with 6600 GT video cards, but that's the only one listed with *issues* in the readme. Guess it's a good thing I snagged a 7900 GT last year
