Freelancer Straight from CD

I got sum gr8 help bak there about running off a flash drive, which should work ok, but I've got a question. Does freelancer change any of it files in its game folder? If not, you could run it straight from CD

No, you need to have it installed. Without this, you will be missing the needed resistry entries.
