Help, how to set resolution to 1280 x 1028, because it's not shown up on the menu,

You need to edit the 'Display' section of your PerfOptions.ini file (should be in My Documents\My Games\Freelancer).
Just change the 'size =' line to 1280, 1024 and you should be good to go.

(I did this to 1400, 1050 on my laptop- runs great until I get a LOT of ships on-screen)
